Is it true if a heart pacemaker is incinerated or burned in a fire, it will produce a nuclear explosion?

...an explosion powerful enough to level a city block? A friend of mine told this to me and I find it difficult to believe.
Answer:
no, you have to be joking. Or have an extremely low IQ. First off if it was that unstable it would not go in someones body.
Nope. That type of fuel could not undergo such a dramatic reaction.
Your friend is not very bright. Simply put, the answer is "no".
It's true.
I don't even know how they work, but no it is not possible, for one they would have to be nuclear powered (which there not) and for two a fire will not set off a nuclear reaction.
I'm glad you were skeptical, because that is completely bogus. A pacemaker is nothing more than a battery and a computer chip. It's about as dangerous as a wristwatch.
Absolutely not. To have a nuclear explosion you need a critical mass of a radioactive material. Somewhere around 20 Kilograms. An entrie pacemaker does not even weight a pound.
Your friend is wrong...Very wrong.Pacemakers contain no nuclear isotopes and even if they did there would be no possibility whatsoever of a fission reaction.Pacemakers have used Lithium Iodine batteries for the past several years, before that I believe they used zinc-cadmium or something similar. No radioactive materials involved at all.
Aaaah. That would be a "no."
No, not a nuclear explosion! But I do know that if a body with a pacemaker is cremated, it will have some explosion. A funeral director told me that he forgot to remove one once and it ruined the cremation unit. He had to but the crematory a new one!
i'd say there would be an explosion but not a nuclear one. the explosion is due to the battery used in the pacemaker (Li-I) or (Cd-Zn) these batteries produce enormous amount of heat due to exothermic reactions triggered by the heat from the fire so they explode.
That's how the terrorists plan to attack us next. They're using funeral homes as fronts. Not much security there. Just taking suicide bombing to the next logical level - suicide corpses.
Is your leg longer? Your buddy's been pulling it. One of the major hurdles the Manhattan project members had to solve was the method of "crushing" the uranium core to obtain critical mass in exactly the right way. The soccer-ball shape of the conventional charge and the wiring to get each segment to ignite simulataneously was a stroke of genius. It's very difficult to obtain this condition, and pacemakers tend not to be chock-full of explosives.
The answer is NO. But I can add a little trivia to this discussion. Many years ago, say in the early seventies battery technology is not what it is today. Pacers back then basically used mercury batteries so the search was on to find a longer lasting battery. Medtronic used a nuclear pile battery that they claimed was good for 20 years. I am not making this up, I actually saw one during a tour of the medtronic plant here in MN and saw one. There was a catch, the patient had to sign papers stating that the pacer would be removed from the patient prior to burial. You cannot bury a nuclear battery.
nononononononononononono!!...

is it true black people have an extra muscle in there legs?

I always heard in school that black people have an extra muscle in there legs, thats why they can jump so high and run really fast..I dont believe this tho but what ever...
Answer:
I have heard that also. So finally went to ask jeevesNo they don't have an extra leg muscle but are more athletically inclined than caucausians. Here is part of the article ... the rest may be found at the link I have in "source".
***************************
White men can't jump. Asian men can't either. But according to Jon Entine's new book, Taboo: Why Black Athletes Dominate Sports and Why We Are Afraid to Talk About It, Black men - and women - sure can. The usual reason given for Black athletic success is that Blacks have little chance to get ahead elsewhere. But Entine's new book shows that in sports, Blacks have a genetic edge. The physical facts Entine reviews are quite well known. Compared to Whites, Blacks have narrower hips which gives them a more efficient stride. They have a shorter sitting height which provides a higher center of gravity and a better balance. They have wider shoulders, less body fat, and more muscle. Their muscles include more fast twitch muscles which produce power. Blacks have from 3 to 19% more of the sex hormone testosterone than Whites or East Asians. The testosterone translates into more explosive energy.Entine points out that these physical advantages give Blacks the edge in sports like boxing, basketball, football, and sprinting. However, some of theserace differences pose a problem for Black swimmers. Heavier skeletons and smaller chest cavities limit their performance.VERY INTERESTING
no, black or white people have the same number of muscles in their body
yes it is true
NO!

Is It True ,That The Stonger You Are In Your Arm muscle , the less it would hurt when you get you blood taken?

Answer:
It's not true. Everyone has a different threshold of pain. To some it's nothing. To others it may be excruciating. It also depends on the skill of the person inserting the needle.
If you think it hurts to get blood drawn you are probably a wussy
Not neccesarilly (i cant spell lol)
It doens't hurt to get blood taken.
Giving blood doesn't hurt, not finding a vein is what hurts. So The more you are pumped up with muscle the easier it is to find a vein
The pain has nothing to do with how strong your arm is.It depends how swift and accurate that the blood taker is
If the phlebotomist drawing your blood is good and your veins are not tiny it shouldnt hurt whether you have muscles or not
While it may be true that having the underlying layer of muscle makes the vein closer to the surface and eaier to access, I would not say that muscle content actually affects the level of pain associated with venipuncture. The skill level of the phlebotomist is important as well as the reaction of the patient. If you are nervous and jittery, any pain you feel could be amplified under the stress and make the experience worse. And don't forget to eat before having your blood drawn, unless instructed to fast by your doctor. having low blood glucose levels and getting upset are not a good combination, especially when a needle is involved. Also, each individual has his own level of pain tolerance.
i believe it is the opposite because the more muscle you have the more pressure their will be.
My sister draws blood for a living and its not the size of you muscle that will make it hurt i depends on the size of your vein the experience that the phlebotomist has and also how nervous you are because when your nervous all the blood rushes to you heart and organs which takes blood away from your arm or where ever your getting poked and the less blood there is where its being drawn the harder it is to get the blood and the more painfull it is.
there is no temporal relation between muscles and pain. But if you've lots of muscle, you could not have gotten it without a lot of pain... So I guess it works that way... you'll be able to bear it easier. Also if you're muscular and not laden with fat... it's very easy to find a vein. So it's easier to draw blood. Sometimes Doctors/ para medics are forced to prick more than once in obese / non muscular people.
The more you work out the better you veins are, so it is easier to give blood...

Is it serious if your excrement is a strange color and smells absolutely awful?

It has been this way for a month. My diet is normal. Please help.
Answer:
Strange coloration with very foul-smelling stool sounds very much like classic steatorrhea, which is basically non-absorption of fat in the small intestine. The reason for steatorrhea varies, but may is commonly due to enzymatic deficiencies, malabsorption disorders, or dietary imbalances, but may have many other causes as well. You should see your doctor to determine the cause, so that you can both come up with a plan to prevent it.
it could be due to the medication you're using, or may be you're not having enough water
Yes it is serious. Very serious.
Check with your doc.
blood in your stomach will pass thru as melena- which is commonly seen as dark tarry stools. if that is what you're seeing, then you need to get evaluated by a GI doctor to find the source of your bleeding.

Is it safe, and would it work if i too 3 tabs of 50mg to make up for 150mg?

I have been prescribed fluconazole from docs each tab is 50mg and i have to take 2 tabs one a week for 7 weeks. I read the leaflet and it says usually the dose given is one 150mg only. Would it work if i took 3 tabs of the 50mg?
Answer:
More than likely not. Your doctor has prescribed long-term therapy for a reason. The 150mg one-time dose is for vaginal candidiasis ONLY! Taking fluconazole for a shorter period than prescribed may lead to recurrence of active infection.

Fluconazole dosing all depends on the type of infection and its location in your body. The daily dose of fluconazole for the treatment of infections other than vaginal candidiasis should be based on the infecting organism and the patient's response to therapy. Treatment should be continued until clinical parameters or laboratory tests indicate that active fungal infection has subsided. Patients with AIDS and cryptococcal meningitis or recurrent oropharyngeal candidiasis usually require maintenance therapy to prevent relapse.Again, do not change your regimen without talking to your doctor first. Fungal infections are sometimes difficult to treat. Follow your doctor's advice. You may save yourself a lot of time, money and needless suffering.I hope this helps. Be well.Rick the Pharmacist
you should take it the way your dr. wants you to take it. as some medicines shouldnt be split up. call your md and find out.
no you take it as prescribed by your doctor for your use
it should work in that you will receive the appropriate amount of medicine into your system.. the only thing i am not sure about is whether it is going to be properly deliveredsome medicines are timed-released.. they have components in them that slow down the absorption rate of the pill causing the medicine to slowly be delivered to you throughout the day or set time periodid call your doctor just to be sure, although i imagine it would be fine
It doesn't matter what the dosage normally taken is. You should only take how much has been prescribed by your Dr... they prescribed that amount to you for a reason... just stick to what's on the label.
Nope..use it as your doctor directs. More than likely, he has a reason for the dose. Even if the "usual" dose is 150mg, that doesn't mean you are taking it for that condition it is "usually" prescribed for. If you have questions, contact your MD or his/her nurse.
It will work fine to treat your yeast vaginitis but not for your nail infection. You spent money to get the opinion of an expert and now you've decided you know better? Here's a thought: doctors are among the smartest people and have extensive training, yet they go to another doctor when they're ill.
Of course it would work, but that is not what you were prescribed. Don't be your own doctor.
Since its a antimicrobial drug their should not be any problem as such, and then the tablet would not contain any other substance as well, and hence it would work out, but then it is always better to go by the way the doctor suggests. for u may not be aware of other facts that go with it.. and the various theories that are related to the dosage preperation..

is it safe to use losartan & metoprolol at same time?

i have very high blood pressure
Answer:
That's a pretty safe combination. Losartan is an ARB, which has fewer side-effects than ACE-inhibitors, while metoprolol is a cardioselective beta1 blocker, presumably to prevent reactive increases in heart rate. As long as your kidneys are in good shape, you should be ok.
Yes. Losartan reduces the ability of the blood vessels in your body to constrict, which means your heart doesn't have to pump so hard to get blood around the body. Metoprolol stops the heart beating too hard and too fast.
That's a pretty routine combination, especially in people who've had a recent heart attack and/or people with both hypertension and diabetes. But it's also not a bad combo for hypertension alone if single-drug therapy isn't adequate.

is it safe to use a product for the skin that contains ethyl alcohol and methyl salicylate?

what are the possible toxic substances would be produced when we react methyl salicyalte and ethanol? are there any restrictions in the quantity in the formulation when using both of these compounds?
Answer:
Perfectly safe. Methyl salicylate is oil of wintergreen. Ethanol is just concentrated booze. Mixing the two will not cause a reaction unless there is a strong base present (sodium hydroxide, for example). A strong base will release methanol.
Both are irritants. Ethyl alcohol sterilises the local area of skin. Alcohol sponging is better than water sponging during high fevers as alcohol evaporates rapidly and reduces fever faster.Alcohol applied to certain areas like genitals specially in children is painful.
Methyl salicylate is used in almost all pain balms.

Is it safe to take vicodin when you are on ketoconazole?

Answer:
you should consult with your doctor or pharmocyst
Well, I was watching House, M.D. the other night and they said...... ASK YOUR DOCTOR MEDICAL QUESTIONS, not a bunch of net people.
Both medicines are stressful on your liver. You also risk interfering with the way the ketoconazole works. You should avoid taking them together if possible.
Yes, you can take vicodin and ketoconazole together, but this combination would warrant you to monitor this drug therapy. Ketoconazole is a an inhibitor of the liver enzyme that breaks down vicodin, while vicodin is an inducer for this liver enzyme. If both of these medications are taken at once, you might not have enough of this liver enzyme to metabolize or break down the vicodin, which could diminish the proper therapeutic effect for your pain management (this would cause vicodin to stay in your system longer than wanted, allowing it to build up and possibly lead to toxic effects). While taking this combo, you need to watch for any symptoms of toxicity such as excess sleepiness, low blood pressure, slowed heart rate, slowed breathing, and excessive nausea or vomiting. I would check with your doctor first before taking this combination and make sure that you have a healthcare professional monitoring your therapy with these two medications. Another side note: make sure you are NOT drinking alcohol while taking these two drugs as it can lead to a lot of nasty side effects (excessive drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting). Best of luck!
yes it's safe

Is it safe to take tylenol if your on prozac?

Answer:
Tylenol (acetaminophen) interacts with very few other drugs, except for beverage alcohol (liver damage). You can take it safely along with Prozac (fluoxetine).I hope this helps, be well.Rick the Pharmacist
Talk to a pharmacist, or your doctor before doinbg so.
i've took prozac b4 and i would take headache powders and tylenol and i took prozac about 3yrs
Yes, but in the recommended doses. If you think you may have taken too much or are consdiering it, contact the your local Emergency Room or Poison Control immediately.

is it safe to take phentermine with prozac?

Answer:
Is it safe to take phentermine with Prozac?According to drugs.com drug interaction software - NOfluoxetine and phentermine (major Drug-Drug) GENERALLY AVOID:Several case reports suggest that patients treated with serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SRIs) may exhibit an increased sensitivity to sympathomimetic agents. The mechanism of interaction is unclear. The reaction has been reported when fluoxetine was used concomitantly with phentermine, amphetamine, or phenylpropanolamine. Additionally, some sympathomimetic agents (e.g., amphetamines) may possess serotonergic activity and should generally not be administered with SRIs because of the additive risk of serotonin syndrome, which is a rare but serious and potentially fatal condition thought to result from hyperstimulation of brainstem 5-HT1A receptors.Despite so-called "anecdotal reports" of others speaking here without legal authority, I would not recommend the two together for a couple of reasons: one, the rare, but potential drug interaction; two, the reason you're taking Prozac should be way more important in stablizing than losing weight. Get a grip on the underlying reason for taking an antidepressant - THEN take care of any weight issue. Not that losing weight isn't important for long-term health, but mental health issues trump losing weight in the big scheme of things.I hope this helps.Rick the Pharmacist
never good to mix drugs
Yes, it is. Actually prozac enhances the phentermine. I have always taken the two together. When your body seems to have become immune to the phentermine, start taking prozac once daily with it. It will kick start it again. But as always please consult with your physician.
it is best to speak to your Physisician

is it safe to take NyQuil while on antibiotics?

I am taking Penicillin VK prescribed by my dentist because of root canal therapy, but I am not feeling too well. Is it safe to take NyQuil?
Answer:
yes you can. There is no drug interaction. Just stay away from acetaminophen if you are taking nyquil (nyquil already has that in it.) Acetaminophen is in pain pills, tylenol, etc.
You can call a pharmacist and they can tell you.
Or your local hospital or clinic.
Hope you feel better.
Read the back of the NyQuil bottle and see if it says anything. If not, then ask your Doctor. I think it should be though since it's OTC.
Yes; NyQuil should not have any negative interactions with Penicillin VK.
I would say that you can take it, but I would still recommend that you ask a pharmacist.
heck yah
Other than the basic fact that Nyquil is useless, there's little reason to worry. Drug interactions are quite unlikely.

Is it safe to take ibuprofen and parecetemol together?

I had a doctor tell me that i should take ibuprofen and parecetemol together for my really bad back pain once but is it safe?
Answer:
yes perfectly and they wont make you drowsy either so you can do what you want
Only under medical supervision - and for heavens sake do not try to drive a motor vehicle.
i've taken them b4 with no probs. just dont o.d! if ur worried take parecetamol, then wait an hou b4 takin ibuprofen!! u could always get the number 4 nhs direct and ask their advice!
yes it is
yeah, no problem, double the doses to be sure.
yes..ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory
yes, no worries :-)
yes it is as Ibroprufen doesn't contain paracetemol, although I would try the Ibroprufen first and only take the paracetemol if you are still in pain.
Certainly yes. If you have very bad pain it is safer to take 2 different pain killers together than to double the dose of one.
Happy Christmas.
it is dangerous.
I'm surprised your doctor advise this as I do not believe it to be safe to take these 2 ingredients together.
Totally safe as they are 2 seperate drugs. This is the combination of pain killers suggested by most doctors/nurses/ hospitals. Just make sure you leave a 4 hour gap between parcetamol doses, and a 6-8 hour gap between ibuprofen doses. You can take both tablets together, just leave the gaps inbetween.
If you were told this by a doc then it should be ok. Dont take more than recommended dose. this is 8 paracetamol in 24 hrs max. If you are at all unsure phone NHS 24 for advice.
well, it's better to alternate between the two i.e. take ibuprofen, next hour take paracetamol, next hour ibuprofen again etc. instead of taking them at the same time, it's just a bit easier on your kidneys and liver which has to process them all. Plus drink lots of water.
Yes it is in moderation.!
Yes you will be fine to do this. Paracetamol is a pain killer that blocks the pain signals sent by the nerves at the source of the problem e.g in your back. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflamitory (to stop any swelling/inflamation) as well as a pain killer that blocks signals at the receptor part of the brain that deals with feeling pain. They are perfectly safe to take together. Remember to always follow the dosage on the instructions given with the tablets though.
Yes, they're from different drug 'families'. I recommend it all the time.
Yes you can. Leave at least 15minutes gap between paracetamol and ibuprofen, so the effects are better. The reason why they can be taken together is because they work in different ways without affecting one-another but helping each other!! i.e. One is for inflammation (which consequently would help with the pain) the other one is for pain. Good luck and remember to be careful, don't over do it, stick to the dose your doctor has given you.
Please Don't Try.
Yes and no, actually I just took a Vicodin ES (Dunno what it is sold as in the UK, but 7.5 mg Hdrocodone and 750mg parecetemol) and 2 Ibuprofen, And a lot of the time I'll take just paracetemol and Ibuprofen. I have some torn muscles in my neck and with the weather change here kills me at times. Both the medications work differently, and I think paracetemol has a better pain killing advantage, but Ibuprofen is a lot better anti-inflamatory. The mix was also recommended to me by my doctor, but with warnings..As far as getting drowsy, depends on the person, I've seem people go to sleep on one single Ibuprofen, and here I am on both plus a strong narcotic, and I don't use it much (maybe once or twice a month, so no real tolerance, yet still running around and writing stuff. Also, take into account how strong your stomach is, because both medications can just rip it apart in some people, even causing ulcers with continued use. (Which is why they say not to mix them).Definitely avoid long term use, both medications can cause liver damage, and the more you mix them the more you can cause stomach damage.Anyways, you will be fine, no overdosing (unless your mixing the max 5,000mg of Ibuprofen with the max dose of parecetemol).
I've struggled with back pain for years, and the solution for me is Botox injections. I'm heavily built, with dense muscle-mass, and bending causes my muscles to stiffen and harden, pulling the vertebrae out of alignment, and pressurising the spinal nerve. Nice. Botox injections, on the NHS, into my lower back, stop the muscles tightening. The effect is up to strength in a couple of days, and lasts for a few months. Instead of a knackered 40-year old construction worker, with all the hang-over of hard sports training and injuries, I feel 20! Ask your local hospital if they have a pain clinic, and a consultant there who administers Botox.
Or continue living in pain, killing your liver with pain-killers. And get yourself a good physio.Good luck.
Yes, it is, as long as you check the ibuprofen isn't already combined with paracetamol. Always read the packet carefully. You can phone any pharmacist and they will always advise you.
I believe there is an on- line pharmacist, where you can get all the information you want twenty hours a day.I hope the back pain goes and you will soon feel more comfortable!

Regards, Cassandra
it is safe. may countries have the drugs together in combination as a tablet. For an average caucasian adult, all other conditions remaining normal like sensitivity pattern, a safe dose (body wt 50 kg) would be para 500 mgs thrice daily with brufen 400 mgs twice daily. However, some persons develop reactions to drugs, kidney failure, stomach pain, even with a minor dose. the express supervision of your physician is recommended at all times to look for and prevent rarer complications like blood dyscrasias.
NOTE - If you are looking to the web to check if your physician has the desired knowledge, i would be right in saying you consider most of the medical board not intelligent.
yes
For most, the combination is safe as the two individually, and compared to other common combinations (paracetamol and codeine, for instance) is underappreciated.
That is like taking the same medicine twice. Take one or the other. Ibuprofen can go to 800 mg by Rx.
Sure thing.
In fact they give the same to children in association
Yes, its safe to take but not daily. Ibuprofen is a anti inflammatory and given in joint and muscle pain. whereas, paracetamol is mainly a analgesic which is for lowering raised body temperature. When there is severe pain combination is given for quick action and potentiality of the individual action. both, the drugs has potentiality action. But, they cause peptic ulcer when taken for long time. it must not be used continuously also plenty of water should be taken.
very.
Read the packets and despair !!
Yes, it is absolutely safe.Ibuprofen is in the NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) class of drug. It works on the body in a completely different way from...Paracetamol, (acetominophen) is a mild pain and fever reliever, but it has NO anti-inflammatory properties. No one knows why or how it works on the body. Personally, I avoid the stuff whenever possible. Both drugs can have problematic side-effects. NSAIDs, like aspirin, can irritate the stomach-lining, to the point of ulceration. Take with food or milk.Acetaminophen accumulates in the liver, and can become toxic. NEVER take more than the recommended dose, and be very careful not to take with other drugs which contain acetaminophen. For example, do NOT take a product like Lemsip (Thera-Flu, in the USA), and additional acetaminophen (Tylenol, in USA). Take an NSAID instead.NSAIDs also have prostaglandin-inhibitors. Prostaglandins are a large part of menstrual cramping, and NSAIDs WORK for period pain. Acetaminophen makes no diff at all, but builds up in your liver. It is unwise to operate machinery or drive while on medications, or while in pain. Have a nice lie-down, instead.

Is it safe to take Hydrocodone 10mg with Adderall 10mg?

I take adderall daily (10mg) and had my wisdom teeth out a week ago which I am still in a lot of pain from. I havent taken my adderall in fear of mixing it, but I began taking it again today. I am in excruciating pain and desperately need to take one of my hydrocodone pills (10mg). Is it okay to take the hydrocodone with the adderall? It doesnt say not to on the drug facts under what not to mix.. but I just want to be sure its safe. Thank you!
Answer:
No problems, I think that they would be fine together. In the rare instance that Adderall makes you sleepy, the hydrocodone can increase that effect. If the hydrocodone is in combination with APAP or acetaminophen (as in vicodin or lortab,...) don't take tylenol, which is the same thing, with it though unless you ask the dentist who prescribed it.
Call your pharmacy, or any pharmacy for that matter. Any competent pharmacist should be able to answer your question.

Is it safe to take a sauna/steam bath?

Is it safe to take a sauna/steam bath?
They say that going to sauna or steam can lower your blood pressure. Is it true? Currently my bloodpressure has increased to 130/80. It used to be 120/80
Answer:
130/80 is still normal, but depending on your age. If you are 30+ years of age, that would be alright. If you are below 30, you a high blood but not hypertensive yet. Going to sauna is still tolerable and could lower your blood pressure. But if you are hypertensive, that is 140/90 and up, then it can add more pressure and shoot up to hypertensive level which would eventually end up in stroke. For more info on the benefits of sauna, click at http://www.valuesaunasusa.com/page7.shtm...
Yes it is for most people but I think that you may not be suited for this. Your body probably do not react well to high temperature. Could it be possible that you are doing it too frequently or at a very long period?Try to cut down on it a little until your body becomes used too it. This happened to my blood pressure too. But after a few more times, it is now ok.I hope this helps.:)
Steam bathing contributes to a brighter, healthier outlook, increased blood circulation, metabolism and provides a haven from mental and physical stress. Steamist steam baths will enhance the quality of life for both you and your family each and every day.

is it safe to mix xannex and viagra?

I was wondering i have a script for xannex and i want to take a viagra just to see how it works is this safe? Also my takes adderall is it safe for her to take half of it?
Answer:
Your question makes me wonder if your doctor has prescribed the Viagra, it sounds as if you're taking it on your own - which is not advisable. Viagra is for men with documented erection problems, it is not a sex performance enhancer (although many people think it is). I caution using Viagra unless your doctor has prescribed it. The most serious potential drug interaction with Viagra occurs with prescription nitrates used for heart disease. Viagra has been used safely with benzodiazepines such as Xanax (alprazolam).I hope this helps.Rick the Pharmacist
Xanax is for anxiety and has a component to relax the muscles. Viagra is for erectile dysfunction, are you saying you are nervous about having sex? Maybe slacking off the xanax would help you perform better sexually. Viagra is for men, if your girlfriend needs something, let her ask her doctor or try some of the over the counter drugs at the drugstore. There is a new oil out by KY that has a warming agent in it, feels silky. This is a question you should have asked your doctor though.

Is it safe to mix Nurofen and Sudafed?

I'm off out tonight. Now i'm not feeling tip top thanks to the coldy, fluey thing going round at the moment (no not bird flu).Anyway I was just wondering if its safe to mix Nurofen: Cold and Flu with Sudafed.Sudafed is paracetamol based, where as Nurofen is Ibruprofen based. On the Nurofen packaging it doesn't say anything about not taking with paracetamol. BUT in this situation its better to be safe than sorry.Anyone know for sure.
Answer:
If you are an adult yes. This website has the answer on from a source you can trust
i don't think its safe to mix any medicine unless the doctor said its ok to take one then another at the same time
yes it is safe and i've done it many times, as you state nurofen does not have paracetomol in it.
warm some lemonade, honey and whiskey up and drink before bedtime, this will also help your fluey feeling.
WHY ARE YOU ASKING THE LUNATICS ON HERE ABOUT A MEDICAL QUESTION.RING NHS DIRECT
Should be fine just make sure there are no drugs that are the same I take paracetamol and ibuprofen together a few times its not a problem been told to by the doctor before. Just don't do it all the time or you can have stomach problems
It should be safe - but you would be better off phoning nhs helpline or checking with a pharmasict, your local tesco will probably have one on hand until about8pm, give them a call and double check - i have been told when adminstating a paracetamol based drug and an ibruprofen drug, to take them 2 hours apart - this means the one will be most effective, while the other one is trailing off - hope your night out is worth it!
You can mix them as long as they don't both contain the same ingredients. I take anti-inflammatory tablets and painkillers every day for back pain and I mix tablets for the best effectiveness. For example I can take paracetamol with dihydrocodeine and diclofenac (the anti-inflammatory). If they have different ingredients they should be OK to mix.
Have a good night out.

Is it safe to label IV tubing with a permanent marker for the date and time?

If not, what is the best practice for a system-wide approach to label iv tubing?
Answer:
I have not seen this system of labeling Intravenous tubing.
Try using a paper tape and the permanent marker will stay and that tape is very difficult to remove.
The chart will have the date that the tube was placed. Any changes will be documented. If you are not sure that the change was completed, ask the charge nurse for information...
Yes. The plastic the tubing is made of will not let the marker pass through.HOWEVER, I still would use a bit of tape wrapped around the tube to write on, one where you've got a tab of tape sticking out. That tubing is so much harder to write on than a tab of tape...
Most places have Tubing stickers. If the tubing does not have one, it is just good pratice to throw it out and start fresh, with a sticker.

Is it safe to have the same surgery twice?

I had a breast reduction about 4 years ago. Is it safe to have the same surgery again?
Answer:
Yes. If the incision is made in the same place as the first incision there may be additional scar tissue to cut through. It's generally a good idea to avoid going under general anesthesia multiple times since each time it becomes riskier, but people have repeat surgeries all the time. ie C-section, knee replacements, etc.
Probably. The surgery is not ordinarily dangerous. But it is painful, as you know by now, so think twice about it.
yes,it's safegood luck
Yes, that surgery can be done again if you need it. You might also benefit from a mastopexy (breast lift), which can be done at the same time.
Breast Reduction surgery has become very common now. My cousin got her breast reduction, tummy tuck and facelift surgery in India by the company called Forerunners Healthcare .The Price for the surgery she paid in India was very less. She paid 30% of the cost she was quoted in America.Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. They arrange cosmetic and plastic surgery for foreigners in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the breast reduction, tummy tuck, facelift and other cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star. Many patients travel from United States of America and UK to get low cost surgery in India. Indian corporate hospitals are comparable to hospitals anywhere in the world. In fact, India has medical facilities that are comparable with the USA, UK and Canada. India offers World Class Medical Facilities, comparable with any of the western countries. India has state of the art Hospitals and the best medical experts. With the best infrastructure, the best possible Medical facilities, accompanied with the most competitive prices, you can get the treatment done in India at the lowest prices.http://www.forerunnershealthcare.com...

is it safe to get rid of reactive oxygen species?

is getting rid of your reactive oxygen species safe?
Answer:
Reactive oxygen species have been implicated in molecular DNA damage that contributes to aging, and is the basis for the success of anti-oxidant containing products in recent years. However, it is also used by white blood cells and macrophages in the body to fight bacteria and parasites, which is obviously a good thing to have, so it really wouldn't be a good idea to totally eliminate them from the body.
That's not possible, so it's not really an issue of safety. If you could theoretically do that, then it might be beneficial because reactive oxygen species contribute significantly to the aging process (at least according to some theories). I don't think anyone can really know if it would be safe or not though.
Reactive oxygen species or free radicals have to be ridden off our body. We do it every day naturally since we have antioxidants too in our body. This is a present topic in research that is gaining a lot of importance.

Is it safe to drink acohol while being under the two inhalers advair and xophenex?

Please respond
Answer:
Be very careful about Advair...I stopped using it after my doctor advised me that recent studies had shown people using it were at greater risk of dying from...get this... severe asthma attacks. Apparently, Advair usually works great, but can cause a bad attack to be really, really bad. Ask your doctor.
No.
i wouldn't do it.
ask your doctor.
not safe to drink alchohal at all bra, expecially doin that ish, man you gonna have a heart attack or get really stooked.
Yes, sure. And when you do it, say hi to St Peter from me.

Is it safe to double up on a dose of 1 mg Melatonin if the initial dose didn't help me fall asleep?

I've been taking it for a few months, but lately the one pill (1mg) doesn't seem to be effective. I'm thinking it would be okay, but wanted to get a few other opinions.
Answer:
I think that since they come in higher doses than that you will be safe to take more than one but I would do it slowly like try 2 out for a month or so and then go up as needed but if you are having trouble sleeping ALL the time you might want to consider talking to a dr about that you could have other health issues that are effecting your brains ability to drift off to sleep. Just as a precaution is all I take otc sleeping pills occasionally when I need to. I work third shift so sometimes its hard to sleep when I get home afterthat sunlight gets in your brain sometimes I can't sleep all day. I feel your pain in that area and wish you well and good health!!
Read the label. Checg the amount ,it comes in microgms too .I have up to 6 mgs .no problem.
It should be fine. But, if you are taking any MAOI's this could be very dangerous. **Speak to your PCP if you are taking any other drugs with Melatonin**

is it safe to do heavy excersise while taking antibiotics.?

is there any problems if i do weight training during course of antibiotics. or after taking injection. I forgot to ask my doc.
Answer:
You can exercise all you want, have fun at it! Just don't drink any alcohol while taking antibiotics.Good Luck.
as long as you are feeling well enough to workout then is should be fine.
call the docters office and they can tall you over the phone i bet
no harm in that do take care if it is related to heart or respiratory conditions.
Should be fine... although you should remember that you are ill enough to require antibiotics, so your body isn't healing as quickly as when you are well. Excercise is fine... just don't over do it.
Depends on what you're taking them for and how badly these ones are effecting your coordination, especially as you're lifting weights. Also worth keeping mind if you are taking them for the flue or a chest infection that your heart rate is quite probably already high. If in doubt just call the doc they can tell in about 5 seconds.
If you are on ABX then you have an infection. If you have an infection then, depending on the organism and the site of infection, you may be infectious. Usually there is no prohibition against exercise with ABX, just don't go to a gym where you could spread the infection to others. Wait until the infection is cured.

Is it rue that, for a drug to be addictive, it must be either injected or sniffed, because other than that?

It doesn't enter the bloodstream fast enough?
Answer:
Besides smoking (marijuana, crack, cigarettes), addictive drugs can also be drunk (alcohol for example) or absorbed (nicotene patches for example) or just held in the mouth (chewing tobacco, snuff). Actually, substances can be absorbed into the bloodstream quite quickly beneath the tongue.
or smoked? and no it isnt true
This is false. These days heroin can be made pure enough to smoke, cocaine can be smoked, and crystal meth can be smoked, all of which are highly addictive.
Stuff gets into your bloodstream very quickly through your lungs. I've taken a hit of Salvia before and been high before I even pulled the bong from my lips. Also, crack is addictive and it's usually smoked. If a drug is known to be addictive, then changing how you use it isn't going to effect that.
No. Some drugs are addictive in pill form, such as oxycontin.
Absolutely not true.
Take for example tranquillisers, like sleeping tablets. You swallow them and they are addictive like hell.
There are also plenty of drugs in pill form that are addictive. Sleepy times, pain killers, and don't worries, are a few that fall into that class.
No. Many drugs in pill form are addictive, which is why you cant just walk into a drugstore and buy them. Also tobacco, which is usually smoked but can be addictive in it's "smokeless" forms.
All it takes for any 'drug' to be 'addictive' is the 'chance' that a person will need to take 'more and more' of that drug to get the same effect as the 'original dosage' gave. I am on prescription Vicodin for 'pain' ... and if I was 'addicted to it' I would be taking 'forty or fifty' pills a day, to 'completely relieve' the pain in my back and hips. I've had the same 'scrip' for almost three years now, and still take 'less than three pills a day' ... so I am 'not addicted' but the drug I take is still 'addicting' ... and I 'swallow it' ... so 'injection and sniffing' are 'contributors to' addiction happening, but the 'drug' does not 'have to be' injected or sniffed to become an 'addiction.'
Consider the nicotine patch--this is neither inhaled or injected--it is absorbed through the skin. And nicotine is considered to be more addictive than cocaine.
Some addicts like the rush, but no. The large majority of addicts prefer their drugs by mouth.
Of course not. The best examples are:
marijuana - smoked, eaten
tobacco - smoked, chewed
alcohol - drunk
caffeine - drunk

Is it right for the U.S. to be offering fast track Visas to doctors, especially Cubian Doctors, who are?

willing to abandon their work with the poor in many countries, and come here to make good money?
Answer:
If doctors are needed here then yes. It's up to those doctors whether they want to stay where they're from, you shouldn't feel bad because they chose to come here instead of stay where they were.
C-U-B-A-N.
They're probably more educated than you my friend...
I'll leave the "right or wrong" of this one to those with up or down votes to cast on the subjectSimple comment here-- the "inside reason" that this is being done is simply because the Feds are into a concerted and very much ongoing activation of---flooding the country with illegals from Mexico as we speak and they want "service personnel" to deal with them so that they are not bogging the services sector of the "elites" down with their maintainance !Anyone who does not know that this is going on needs to tune in and listen up--- just two weeks ago the Federal government and the State of Texas gave carte blanche to over 100 Mexican trucking companies to access the borders without the "inconvienience" of border checks ! They now have a rock solid GO card that allows them total access to the country without question one ! Now what cargo do YOU think these trucks will be carrying ! All this at a time when they are pumping this SECURITY thing down OUR throats that have US standing in two hour lines with body searches to LEAVE the country on a plane ! With these doctors they are letting in--- at least they will not be sucking down the social security system like this flood of illegals coming in will be doing---- they are actually passing legislation in Congress that is going to be allowing THESE people to draw from the system that they have never paid into at the major expense of all who have !
THIS SHOULD BE A WAKE UP CALL PEOPLE !!!!!
It is not right for Cuban doctors to be here, and leaving their country just to earn more money. For the lady who said Cubans are more educated then American doctors I am guessing you are not a doctor. Medical School is very rigorous and intense it puts a lot of stress on you. Medical schools teach you so much, and most doctors like myself read books on new medicines almost daily. We keep up on our medical skills. Back to the Cuban question. If we can't trade with Cubans why should we let them come her to be our doctors. It is extremely wrong.
is it right? no. they should be helping people in cuba but not because they are cubans, but simply because they can. doctors from the US should go and help those in poor countries who are dying of easily curable conditions. I dont understand why some in the US think that US citizens are worthy of much more than anyone from anywhere else.
Is it right? I don't think so,not when our Government has made it so expensive, that deserving U.S. students cannot afford the costs of a medical education without a staggering debt load, when their finally ready to practice. Why does this country subsidize foreign students, and not our own? There have been cases when our own students haven't been able to get in school, even though qualified, because class spaces were not available due to foreign students occupying those spots.

is it really possible to gain a longer/bigger penis after the age of 30?

Answer:
No. There is no device, no pill, no lotion, no cream and no exerices that will add inches to your member. There is an operation, but it is questionable at best
%26gt;Oh, how I wish it were so.%26lt;
no, it start shrinking after 30.. to my knowledge..lol.. but work with what you have. I have a friend that has at least 3inches and he makes me feel good b/c I love him//// it's all about the love.. I swear. I had a husband with 9inches and he made me sick to my stomach, I hated his sex b/c I wasn't feeling him anymore. love is the key
No.
the penis growth stoped at age 18
yeah, I got some pills I would like to sell you
oh please, do you believe everything you read on the internet?
no - give up
For erections...yes...but otherwise...no
If you are overweight losing weight will have the effect of lengthening the penis. Thickness is in the eye of the beholder.

Is it really hard to be a doctor or go to school to be one?

I want to be a doctor but i have heard its super hard? Is it true?
Answer:
I too was considering the MD track. I agree it is much harder to get into than the get through. When you are in, they have invested too much money in you to let you simply flunk out unless you don't put in an effort. I'm not trying to dissuade you, but rather offer you another option. What turned me off was when the physicians I was working with all said that they wouldn't have their children go into it. I do prostate cancer research now with a masters degree in neuroimmunology. My boss is an MD/PhD. He quit after 5 yrs of practicing medicine in England because he couldn't tolerate the work. He worked in children oncology and said it was HORRIBLE to see so many die. Anyway, I guess if you can't handle the possibility of your patient dying, you shouldn't become an MD. I was just accepted to Dental school. This year Dental school has a lower acceptance rate than medical school...know why? flexibility, better pay and better hours. Look into it esp. as a female. You wont have as much malpractice insur. and you will have time to spend with your family...in addition, you are still a doctor and can still prescribe meds. Most of the MDs I know spend from 6am-10pm at work... eeeeshhh...not for me, not with a family. On the other hand, if i were single I would absolutely LOVE it! You pick ;) Good luck.
good lord, i hope so!
it is very competitive to get into med school. they only take the brightest so unless u plan on coming out of school with a near 4.0 and studying alot, u might want to find something else. btw: its even harder to get into vet school!
the hardest part is getting into med school. the exact requirements can change from year to year because most med-schools only have a limited number of openings. so lets say you go to college and they only have 20 openings in a certain year, you have to be one of the top 20 out of maybe 1000 people who apply to get in. it can be difficult if there are many people who have 4.0 gpa's. most people have to wait a year to apply again, apply somewhere else, or go into another field. Once you're in, a lot of studying and hard work and you should be alright.
It helps if you are smart. You figure you have a lot of difficult subject to take like chemistry,Latin, calculus. and many more.
super hard.no but its pretty hard..unless you have determination and the goal on your mind to be a doctor everyday...You see its much easier for oneself to dedicate themselves to their studies and get a good GPA...but then once you do get a 4.0 GPA you then have to study alot and become "competitive" against the others that want your spot but you know what...everyone is competing against each other to get the best job so there you go.
It is very rigorous to become a doctor. Medical school isn't that hard to get into if you study hard and do very good on MCAT test. You don't need a 4.0 to get into medical school. You do need to have very good grades in all you science classes, and other medical classes. Once in med school you will work VERY hard. If you are a female you even have to work harder to be recognized. You have to read every day on new medicines so you can treat your patients correctly and try new things. If you want to be a Doctor o meet on at a hospital. Most doctors love to give advice if they are not busy on becoming a doctor. Before I became a doctor I sat down with a Doctor and talked about how he become a doctor what where his struggles so I could try to avoid those situations. Trust me just talking to a doctors Will really help you. Some of them might even let you ta tag depending on their specialty.

Is it proper to use reading glass in front of computer, or is it hazardous for the eyes?

Must use them constantly. Good for eyes.

Is it possible/practical to practice as an obstetrician without doing gynaecology?

...is it possible to get a job as just an obstetrician? I want to handle pregnancies only, not gynaecology. How is the job market and salary for this? Would I still have to study gynaecology in medical school/residency?
Answer:
You do not specialize in medical school, so you would have to study gynecology there, as well as internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, and a variety of other specialties. In order to become an obstetrician, you need to complete a residency that covers both obstetrics and gynecology. You have to learn it all. You may find that you like both. You also may find that the call schedule for OB only is too draining - babies come at all hours, and the staying-up-all-night routine gets old after a while.Obstetrics also has a fair amount of gynecology inherent in it - you still have to stitch up tears or episiotomies, perform hysterectomies when women won't stop bleeding after delivery, take care of their genital warts and STDs, and a lot of other things. You would probably make more money as a gynecologist than as an obstetrician. In Pennsylvania, the high malpractice rates have put a lot of obstetricians out of business. For medical assistance patients, the malpractice costs more than they make for a delivery!Job market/salary is dependent upon where you want to work.Good luck.
You can try to become a doula or a midwife
it is possible, you could work in a large hospital and catch babies all day, but OB is the most sued specialty and carries the highest malpractice insurance, so it may not be practical to do so. You would also have to learn all the gynecology in residency too.
I agree with that other guy, if this is all you want to do, go into being a midwife.
Yes, it is possible to practice obstetrics without practicing gynecology. Most doctors, nowadays prefer practicing gynecology without doing obstetrics, mostly because of malpractice insurance or personal reasons. You would still ahve to go to do a residency (3 years) that trains in both gynecology and obstetrics. The job market and salary depends on where you live, the number of competing obstetricians, and the birth rate in that area. And somewhat on the economy. I couldn't give you an estimate because i don't know how many years before you graduate med school.

Is it possible tu use DNA test to determine if 2 siblings come from the same father?

We just found out my father has another kid with a gold digger he met some time ago, and it doesn't really look like him.
Me and my sisters are wondering if its possible to make and DNA test between any of us and the kid.
We don't want my dad find out about it.
Answer:
Yes. As long as you have your DNA and the DNA of the suspect sibling you can determine if you have the same father. You don't need the father or mother(s).
I believe it has to be the child and your dad. Different mothers
It would be best if you had a DNA sample from all of the individuals: the dad, the mother and the kid. I would guess, though, that if you had your DNA, one or more of your sisters and the other kid, that a good DNA lab could determine that you all share the same father.I'd talk to a lawyer first, though.
yes you can because you will have a lot of the genaric markers. It is easy to get some of your fathers DNA by getting some body fluids (blood, spit, etc.) off a straw.smoke, tissues etc.
Does not matter if the person looks like your dad. There are many variations in genetics. I think there may be a way to check this without your dad's DNA but it's quite expensive and not altogether 100% accurate.

is it possible to wean urself off heroin a little at a time?

Answer:
I See PharmNerd Suggestion as a Relatively Good One, but, Probably for Most people, Not Economically Feasible, I See two Things Actually Going On, These Are, Physical and Psychological Addictions, I Suspect What is Going On Is a Mixture of Both, There is Evidence of The "Homeostasis Model" (Consider the Response of Addicts Returning From Vietnam), but I Think Some Consideration Must Be Given to a "Receptor Model" as Well. In Any Case, I Think Being Under the Care of Someone Very Familiar With Addiction, is a Good Idea.
Probably not. If quitting is a problem it is probably an addiction, in which case an addiction clinic is probably best. As scary as it is, addiction itself is much more scary.
You need help with this, so that they can monitor you, I wish you the best !
rat poison is an acceptable substitute.
Most likely not, and trying a do-it-yourself approach almost guarantees failing. You need professional help and real medical treatment to do this safely and with any hope it will work. There are many options which you need to discuss with a doctor expert in drug recovery. There's everything from cold turkey withdrawal to rapid detox under anesthesia and one method is not right for everyone.
Check into a rehabilitation Centre and they will give you all the informsation you need. Most people say to go Cold Turkey I've never ahd an addiction but I think this would be the best way to go. Take Johnny Cash's advice, have friends and family supporting you :)
Yes i do believe it is possible. In order to do this you must leave your environment, get a new hobby that interest you intently, leave all things that remind you about your heroin use behind, and go through the pain for a little bit. The pain associated with opiate withdrawl is your brain and body trying to get back to homeostasis, however if it is very strong you may need medical attnetion seeming as though this in itself may become detrimental to your health. Truthfully though i do not adivse you doing this. See a specialist, check yourself into a clinic and clean yourself up. Heroin is a very expensive, unproductive, and life threatning activity.

is it possible to view my entire medical history records?

i'd like to like to look at my medical records from birth to present.
how do i do this? Will my current general doctor have my entire history or would i have to go to every hospital and clinici've ever gone to, to gather the information i want.
and will they even allow me to view it?
Answer:
I guess it depends on how each facility you ever went to handled their records. I work in a school's guidance office. When we request the records for new enrollees, some schools will sent the entire cumulative file while others will just send the main information about a student. As soon as a class graduates, the files are placed in a warehouse somewhere so they don't take up room in the office. [I know that this has 0 to do with medicine but it shows you how an office would work]You also have to consider if the older facilities that you went to even exist anymore. Some offices might have gone out of business or burned down or outsourced their files or any of those things. If you were born, grew up and lived in the same place for a number of years, it might be easy to do. If you can go back as far as birth, you should be given access to your files. Otherwise, you'll just have to go to your current place and see what they have.
You will have to go to every hospital and clinic you've been to and collect it that way. There will be a lot of forms to fill out to release that information, but that would be the easiest way. Also, ask your doctor about this, he/she has an administrative staff that could answer this better than I.

Is it possible to transplant human brain from one body to another body ?

Answer:
Brain transplants are not currently possible, because nerves are tremendously sensitive to damage, and you can't really replace a brain largely because it would involve severing innumerable nervous connections (synapses), the vast majority of which will not reestablish properly within the new body. Every axon forms tens-to-hundreds of synapses with effector neurons or organs, all of which must be intact for the nerve to function correctly. Even only-partially damaged axons are unlikely to travel down their appropriate, convulted path after injury, resulting in non-functional nerves -- this same concept applies to brain transplants, as most axons would not reestablish appropriate and functional synapses, leaving the patient with severe neurological deficits.
of course
IT is not yet possible to do this because the brain needs a constant supply of oxegeon and that there is not advanced enough technology to fuse a brain to a different brain stem.I hope this was helpfull. But no fountaian of youth here.
Not yet.
Not yet. If it were, I'd be frightened!
Hmm.. Depends on the person whose brain is about to be transplanted. hehe.. Oh, and, of course, if he or she agrees.. I mean, it's sooo complicated.. It's like to move someone's personality into another body.. and someone's character too.. It can be a total incompatibility between personality, (not to mention the brain's "attributes") characteristic and physical structure.. Hard to imagine what the result will be.
Somehow I believe it would be like a "soul transplant". Because the human soul rests in the brain.. Otherwise, it might be a shock to that person, whose brain was transplanted. I wander what he or she will feel as he/she wakes up, if ever will.. =)
Anyway, my conclusion is, that it is impossible.
No, and probably never in the future. The brain is not really a separate organ in the way a kidney or a heart is. The cranial nerves and spinal cord are extensions of the same tissue.
Where would you think that the donor brain might come from possibly??
A cadaver brain would not be of much use seeing as how it is dead. I don't expect that you would find many loving donors lining up to give theirs.
No !!Scientists are working in it but they could not find any mean to transplant a brain form one human body to other...Infact it seems impossible for the time being.because brain contain such a complex system and its tissues are destributed through out the body that human could not undertand it fully till now , and secondly its very delicate, consisting of cells which when die can never be produced again .secondly after taking it out and making its nervous connection with the other body is a process which seems almost impossible ! and also brain needs contast oxygen supply and it dies within munites without it...and i fear its not practically possible to conduct such a big operations within minutes.theoratica... they have proven it but practically could not conduct it !
Only after they are both dead.

Is it possible to transplant human brain from one body to another body ?

Answer:
Currently, no. But possibly in the future. The base of the brain connects to our spinal cord, which is a tight grouping of millions of nerves that run through our spine and out to all parts of our bodies. Once this cord is severed, depending on the "height" of the severing, paralysis occurs in all parts of the body no longer connected. While most organs are considered vital, without the lungs and heart operating, death will occur in a few minutes. The key to a brain transplant would be correctly reconnecting all the millions of nerves that were severed by removing the old brain. Reconnecting nerves is a difficult process in itself that is gaining more practice in small organs/appendages, such as fingers, legs, hearts. But again, there are millions of nerves to reconnect the brain to, and it must be done properly so.Imagine you are in the largest electronics store in the world, and all the power cords to all the electronics come together and twist into one long braid of power cords (simulates the spinal cord). This braid goes through a wall, and on the other side all the ends of the cords are plugged into electrical outlets in such a way that they could never be removed (simulates spinal cord attached to brain). Something happens to the outlets, and you will need to replace them, but you cannot simply remove the plugs, so you need to sever the braid. You install new outlets with matching wires already permanently plugged in, and must go through the process of splicing the new wires with the old braid. However, you may only connect matching wires, or you may accidentally splice a radio power wire with a television power wire. Since it is only electricity, the worst that could happen is a short in the electronic. For the brain, a short would be deadly. A nerve coming out of a brain whose function it is to tell the heart to pump finding itself connected to a leg will continue to send the "pump" message. Your leg would jerk around, but your heart would malfunction.
Not yet.
Not with current technology. Too many nerves (millions) to reconnect individually.
yup, Mel Brooks did in the movie young frank n stein
You can transplant a human brain, but all you're going to end up with are two dead people.
In time, it'll be possible, but at this moment, technology has not evolved to that level. Maybe in our lifetime, definitely in our children's, we will see it it come to pass.
Well if it happened in a movie, it must be true.
I wish, I know lots of people who could use one.
Interesting question. A human brain transplant (also referred to as a whole body transplant, different from a head transplant) is not possible - yet. It may never be possible, but there are interesting experiments happening with brains and neurons and stem cells in an attempt to treat Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, stroke, paralysis, etc. According to this CNN article, brain cells have been transplanted to treat a stroke victim. I also know that stem cells have been used to treat Parkinson's patients. Maybe you will develop new technology someday to help make this happen! Good luck!

Yes, I saw an episode of Star Trek where they took out and put Mr. Spocks brain back in. It was done by Bones, but he is dead now so he cannot share how it was done. Sad.
this means change body of a men. it is very wonderful when a ladies brain put to a mans body and revers. are you about it?

Is it possible to put PCP in crack? And what would happen if you smoked it?

Answer:
you will get too high. Smokin too much could be fatal!
yeah it's possible, but you would very likely DIE!
Mind blowing! Literally and figuratively.
It is a pretty bad idea. Your heart rate might get ridiculously intense, and people are known to get a bit violent under such a combination.
There is a much more effective alternative to this combination. Take a large cliber handgun place to muzzle in your mouth at a 22 degree upward angle and pull the trigger. The end results are about the same and the gun will be less painful.

is it possible to pass a hair follicle drug test?

Answer:
WHY OF COURSE CANDY IF U WEREEEEEEEEEEE DRUG FREE
Not that I am aware of
NO, and I am very glad there isn't.
It is if you haven't done any drugs...
Not if you've done any in the past 6 months.
im sorry..but no..if you did drugs within three months of the test. it will show. any kind of test will show the results positive. it takes three months for drugs to go out of your system
bleach your hair
Hair follicle testing is quite accurate and can go back 6 months or longer, showing any controlled substances used in a sort of timeline. As hair grows out, any drugs used are encased in the hair shaft, so the longer the hair, the longer back in the individual's drug history the lab can detect. Most legitimate testing facilities, however, only use hair within about 3-5 cm of the scalp, and discard the rest. This limits the detection history to about 90 days, depending upon the rate of growth of the individual's hair. Some people attempt to circumvent this through shaving their heads. In the absence of the required amount of hair on the scalp, body hair can be used as an acceptable substitute. Additionally, for pre-employment hair testing, the inability to obtain a sample may be grounds for not hiring the individual.
There is no way to trick or pass a folicle drug test and I wanted to add one thing. There is no time limit on the testing. You have to stop the drugs and cut off all the hair since you did drugs. this can either take time to get through a few haircuts or you could be more drastic and shave your body COMPLETELY.
im not positive but pretty much no it contains chemical substances for months so i had a medical condition for example where they need to know how much of everthing i had in my body like calcium iodine you know well basicly the hair showed i had to much calcium and it was almost a year ago i stoped drinking those vitamins but the hair test is accurate

Is it possible to overdose and die from taking too many vitamins ?

What would happen If I took thirty multivitamin tablets in one day ?
Answer:
Yes it does cause death when taken in very high doses.Under moderately high doses it cause some unwanted side effects like nausea, vomiting, muscle cramps.Nothing would happen if you took 30 tablets on a sigle day as I pressume because not all the vitamins you are consuming is absorbed by the body, but if you injected large quantities of vitamins it would definitely have immedaite effect. In other cases hypervitaminosis occurs due to cumilative effect.
It is possible to overdose fatally on any substance, including water. Thirty mutlivitamins is not necessarily enough to kill you, but it could still be harmful. Substances can have their toxicity quantified by the LD50, the lethal dose to kill 50% of individuals. As an example, the LD50 for Vitamin C is 11,900 mg/kg (that is, 11,900 mg of chemical per kg of body mass). A 50 kg person would need to take 595 kg of Vitamin C before they would die, an obvious impossibility. Many vitamins and minearls are also quantified by a Tolerable Upper Intake Level (UL). The UL for Vitamin A is 10000 IU/day, and my multivitamin has 3500 IU of Vitamin A, meaning that just three of them would meet the UL. By going to ten times the UL, you could probably harm your body. The effects of excess Vitamin A include liver abnormalities, dry skin, and hair loss. Still, deaths from vitamin overdose are extremely rare in the US.The bottom line is that you should not take more than the recommended dosage of any vitamin supplement.
First I will advise you that I am NOT a medical professional. That being said, you will not die by overdosing on multivitamins. The worst that will happen, is severe stomach cramps. Your body will flush out all the unneeded nutrients in the urine stream and you will be fine. However the stomach cramps may make you feel like you want to die...Why would you want to try this silly experiment anyhow??
Yes! While excess amount of water soluble vitamins (such as B and C)can be eliminated from the body through urine, fat soluble vitamins have to be processed by the liver. One particularly bad on is vitamin A, which is why most vitamins use beta carotene (which the body can break down into vitamin A) rather than the pure form of the vitamin itself. Another one is iron. Not only can adults cause themselves liver damage by taking excessive amounts of iron, several children die from iron toxicity every year because they take too many chewable vitamins.
you could ruin your liver, cause kidney failure, over dose is possible on all vitamins. Most of the time you'll just vomit them out. However some vitamins can build up in your system and cause very serious illness, and some times even death.
Several vitamins are toxic at high doses. B6 can cause neurologic damage at high levels. High iron causes a condition called hemosiderosis. I'm not sure 30 tablets would do irrepairable damage, but it's certainly not recommended.
I don't know if this would be fatal, but just like anything else in life. Too much of anything is not good and comes with consequences. At the very least, I would think that it would make you very ill. Why would you want to take so many vitamins at one time? Maybe after reading what the following sites have to say, you'll change your mind about taking so many vitamins at once. I surely hope so! Please to careful with your health.
I don't know about vitamins, but Iron overdoses are actually common (especially among children).
Yes, depending on what the make up of the vitamin is. All are different. I would call poison control to find out exactly how toxic the vitamins you have are. Another good source of info is a pharmacist, you can call any drug store and talk to the pharmacist that works their even if you haven't purchased your vitamins there.
most vitamins end up getting flushed out when you pee.Taking 30 multis in one day would probably make you feel real sick but I doubt if it would kill you.
I doubt one episode like that would kill you, but your urine will be a different color and you might be in some amount of pain. This type of habit over an extended period of time would be fatal however. A multivitamin is a combination of water soluble and fat soluble vitamins. You can imagine the fat soluble ones will be stored in your body until such time as they are expended. Continually supplementing the fat soluble vitamins will eventually kill you. A,D,E, and K are the fat soluble in case you're wondering.
Yes. You can overdoes on ANYTHING too much of a good thing can still harm you... now i dont know how many it would take but even to much water the one thing every one needs to live is harmful when you drink to much
Too much of a good thing isn't always a good thing.
Yes you can overdose on vitamins. The fat soluble vitamins, ADEK can cause hypervitaminosis with fewer than 30 pills. Also niacin a B vitamin which is water soluble can cause the skin to turn bright red, called flushing, and a heat to move through your body. It is prescribed for cholesterol and I had to take my husband to the emergency room from a reaction to a prescribed dose.
When my son was little he opened a bottle of kids vitamins up (yes, even with the safety cap the little dickens) and I wasnt sure how many he ate. I counted them, realized from the amount I had given my other kids during the week (I had bought the bottle about a week before) that it was likely he COULD have ingested up to 8 tablets...I wasn't sure but that was the max he could have taken. The poison control center said that Vitamin A was the only vitamin in the lot of what he took that might pose a concern but because he only took (a possible) 8 of them, that I should avoid anything with vitamin A for a week to clear it out. I think with all the self-medicating people do these days it's quite likely you can harm your body by intaking too much of what might SEEM like a good thing. 30 multivitamins could likely be toxic to your body. It could damage certain organs at the very least.

Is it possible to not be infected with the HIV virus after a single sexual intercourse with an AIDS patient?

I read on BBC that an AIDS patient INCREASES the LIKELYHOOD of infecting a partner when contracting malaria. I've attached the link if you'd like to check it out.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/622007...
Answer:
If you have a genetic mutation in your DNA which has eliminated the receptor HIV attaches onto, you can have intercourse as many times as you like with someone who is infected but the virus will not be able to use your body as a host. Interestingly, scientists believe that, that same receptor determined if you would catch the bubonic plague.
yes it is possible but the chances are really low
yes, not only is it possible but it is more likely than you would be led to believe. Of course it is never worth the risk. The chance of men contracting HIV is much less than it is for women. It also has to do with the actual sex. The chances are much higher with anal sex. Rough sex can also increase the chances. Studies have shown that the odds of a man contracting the virus from one "normal" sexual encounter with an HIV positive woman is less than 2%. I am not sure what it is for women.Interesting side note:
A percent of the population has a genetic mutation that makes them immune to the HIV virus. These people do not have the cellular receptors that the virus uses to invect cells. It is believed, yet somewhat contested, that this mutation is a result of the black blague which killed 1/3 of europeans and, like HIV, targeted white blood cells. This mutation is most common in those of northern european decent and almost inexistent in those from other continents.
http://www.cirp.org/library/disease/hiv/...
lots of intersting figures
I am pretty sure that it is possible not to get aids after one time. However it is not advisable.
Sure if your real lucky.
Yes its possible not to be infected.
Yes.
A single sexual encounter with an AIDS patient may not infect the partner. However, the probablity is infintely higher (denominator of zero) of contracting the virus in such an encounter than it is in an encounter with a another true HIV negative partner.
absolutely!

Is it possible to lick a frog and get high?

I have heard of this phenomena a lot of times before. But I never found scientific proof for it. So is it possible to lick a frog or a toad and get high? If so, how? Not that I'm going to do it or anything :) I need the answer for my physiology class.
Cheers.
Answer:
Yup -- but you can also have trouble!"About 40 years ago a giant tropical toad, Bufo marinus, was introduced into the southern United States and Hawaii to control the unwanted insect population. While the tactic worked well for insect control, it was later found that the toad secreted a fatal toxin. This toxin is produced in the glands on the toad's head and shoulders. Both humans and animals exposed to the substance can become intoxicated. . . . Death (in pets) can occur as fast as 15 minutes if untreated. "
no.
Actually, yes. There are frogs in tropical areas that exude a mucus that has as part of its composition halucinogenic chemicals. These frogs were at one time for sale, and old folks in rest homes, believe it or not, kept them as pets. You might try some googling----frogs+ tropics+ dendrobates (genus) or +poison arrow dart frogs, or + strawberry red poison arrow dart frogs... for one might lead you somewhere. The compounds in the mucus are as well antibiotic, and anti-fungal.. one of the reasons these critters can live in damp environments and not get infections of their skins when they are injured. Saw these when we were in Costa Rica
Yes indeed, though I don't recommend licking any frogs or toads. The large parotid glands of toads of the genus Bufo, located just behind the eyes, produce two substances鈥攂ufogenin and bufotoxin鈥攖hat affect the adrenal and cardiovascular systems in humans. A third parotoid secretion鈥攂ufotenin, an alkaloid鈥攊s a powerful hallucinogen. The Colorado River toad (Bufo alvarius) possesses the specific enzyme for production of this sub-stance, and the parotoids, which can contain large amounts of the hallucinogen, can produce hallucinations when the skin is dried and smoked. The hallucinogenic properties of toad parotoid glands were well known to the native peoples of Central America, and images of toads with prominent parotoid glands are a common feature on bowls and other objects found at archeological sites.
Not a frog, it's rumored that if you lick a TOAD youll get high because the warts on their skin contain a toxin used to get their prey. I have heard this but I've never tried it so Im ot sure if it's true. You do it and let me know.

is it possible to induce flat-lining?

yes, as you can tell i've just seen the film "flatliners" and it has sparked my interest. I was wondering if it is scientifically possiblt to recreate the experiments, so as to prove once and for all if there is "another side" to reality.I am wearing my suit of armour today, so feel free to throw whatever insults at me that you wish
Answer:
Yes, of course. It is called taking the patient all the way to stage four.e.i.. death. If you wish to know more about anesthesia, google it --- anesthesia+general
It's also possible to flatline and not be unconscious, it would depend how you attempt to induce this.
The medicine Adenosine is used to stop a heart rhythm called Supraventricular tachycardia. It does this by inducing a short period of asystole (flat line) and then the heart restarts once it has worn off. It has a half life of just a few seconds, so the period of asystole is very short, usually 2 to 3 seconds.
Rent the movie Flatliners again and take good notes. Kiefer Sutherland,Julia Roberts,Kevin Bacon,William Baldwin and Oliver Platt will teach you how to do it if you would just pay attention!!I would go hang out with some med students and see if anyone feels like risking your life and their career. You might find someone that wants to play. You could call a your local B%26D/S%26M shop. Thhe might know someone that's into that sort of thing and be able to point you you in the right direction.Have fun and be sure your loved ones know if you want to be an organ donor.

Is it possible to improve eyesight naturally?

Answer:
drink carrot juice
yes, just slightly.. look at more green thins.. lessen comp time
Eat heaps of carrots.!
from my knowledge lasix is the only way, but then again don't get discourage yet there is always change. Who knows there might be something new tomorrow.
Yes eat foods rich in vitamin A and also vitamin C and Magnesium and Iron
I take a Bilberry eyebright vision complex. Completely herbal. And it seems to work. I need less strong glasses now. I take only herbal medicine, never Prescription Drugs..As All Drugs Are A Dead End.
There are books on it using various methods that surprisingly have very good recommendations. Search for it on amazon.com for more information.
Vitamin A is good for your eyes and your immune system. But don't over do it. Too much vitamin A can cause bone problems in men and women. Too much is 25,000 IU or more per day. Vitamin A deficiency can cause blindness. Take B12 lozenges, they are really good for you.

Is it possible to have reconstructive surgery on a temporary ileostomy scar?

Answer:
I'm not a plastic surgeon, but I believe that it could be a possibility...Has the ileostomy closed already, or did it get closed surgically? Different people scar differently, based on many factors, age and race being a couple. I would recommend giving the scar time to heal, then getting a referral to a plastic surgeon who could give you some good advice regarding scar reduction surgery.
Probably. If the scar is well healed, talk to a plastic surgeon. It isn't possible to get rid of the scar completely, of course, but if it is large and unsightly, a plastic surgeon may be able to make it look a little better. If you form keloids, though, it might not be a good idea to mess with it.Hope that helps.

Is it possible to have an exact identical twin?

I saw four identical twins on tv once, but it seems so rare? But is it possible?
Answer:
No you could not have 4 identical twins. Twins are two babies born at once. at conception the egg splits and makes twins they share the exact same DNA there for can not go to prison based on DNA evidence. On the other hand it is very very rare that you would get quadruplets that are identical but it is possible. If they are all the same sex it may be the case. I have a relative who has 2 sets of twins 10 months apart and they all look identical however they are not as it is impossible. Hope this helps. I come from a family with 17 sets of twins. They say that it skips a generation however that is not always the case.
Yes it is possible
Yes ive seen some tiwns that look the same
My husband has an identical twin! Thank god the twins in his family don't Have twins but our poor daughter will. I'm going to have twin grandkids one day!
The first time I met his twin he said " I bet I look familiar, don't I?"
I think you already saw the proof that it IS possible.
Identical (as opposed to fraternal) twins come about when the fertilized egg splits into two seperate pieces. It is possible for these to do that again, but very very rare.
...4 identical sibblings would be known as identical quadruplets, not 4 identical twins.
Absolutely! When a fertilized egg splits - once, twice, three times, 4 times...whatever... that means identical twins. I have an aunt who is an identical twin and it is VEEEERRRYYYY hard to tell her and her sister apart. Identical twins will ALWAYS be the same sex. Fraternal twins (2 separately fertilized eggs) could be the same sex, or different sexes.
No there most be something different !
Do you mean four sets of identicle twins, or do you mean quadruplets? It is possible for this to happen. There is a list of well known multiple births, including identical quadruplets at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/quadruplets...
It is possible but you can tell them apart by their fingerprints...everyone has different ones...
they can look exactly the same, but their fingerprints will ALWAYS be different

Is it possible to have a car that runs of a slush oxygen engine?

I also have two additional questions. Has anyone heard of this before or seen it in a movie because for me to use this for a school project it needs to be completely original. Also by any chance what would be the by-product of the engine?
Thanks
Answer:
Well, if you mean liquid or near-liquid oxygen, I used to work with liquid nitrogen and the guy who delivered it also had liquid oxygen and I began asking about it and he said it was very dangerous/reactive in its liquid state and he proved it by letting a drop of it hit the asphalt parking lot (just a drop) and it exploded and left a dime-sized crater about a 1/4 inch deep! Okay, second part of this is that oxygen-we are now talking about the gaseous form of it-is NOT EXPLOSIVE. It is a flame/ignition/burning ACCELLERANT. It speeds up the burning process dramatically. I tested this on a cigarette that had just been lit (which usually can last about 4-5 minutes) and when I put a constant flow of oxygen on the cigarette it glowed very bright (for a cigarette) and was burnt down to the filter in about 20-25 seconds! Now, onto a different part that MAY be helpful and this may, in fact, be what you are looking for. They developed (only as a prototype but a working prototype) a ceramic engine (ceramic and silicon-based things can withstand very high temperatures) in which a separate machine/component would use hydrolysis-separating the hydrogen and oxygen molecules of plain water-to ignite the hydrogen and use the oxygen to accellerate that ignition and it was rather efficient. So, why did it never get very far? Ceramic is so fragile and susceptible to bumps, hits, etc that the engine would fall apart in whatever car it was in on the first bump or pothole it hit! But, it is a starting place for you anyway. Also, the oxygen/hydrogen ignition is exactly what the space shuttle uses.and the byproduct? Plain old harmless water. Cool, Huh? Hope I was of at least some help.Michael
Oxygen is not a fuel in any state, so the answer would be NO.
What you mean by "slush oxygen"? If you're trying to say liquid oxygen, well, geez, it doesn't even turn into a liquid until about -450 degrees F you know. I've never seen anything like this in any movie, but I wouldn't doubt it if you said you have. No it wouldn't be a by product of anything at all. Think of something else.

Is it possible to have a 3 foot long parasite attached to your spine and nervous system?

Sorry, this is very random but my friend is doing a project and it is on a fictional parasite that is 3 ft. long and attaches to ones spine. I don't believe that can happen but he does.
Thanks
Answer:
There are CNS parasites, but not one that is 3-feet long -- it's possible that such a massive parasite could enter the CNS, but it would soon die because it would not be able to acquire adequate nourishment from the relatively-poor vascular perfusion of the CNS -- it's metabolic demand would be way too high. Or, the host itself would simply die due to such a significant increase in pressure within an exquisitely sensitive region like the CNS -- it would kind of be like having a gargantuan tumor grow within the CNS overnight, which is clearly a change that is incompatible with life.
nope.intestines yes as there's food to be had. they must have food to survive.
Not very likely. But in science fiction anything is possible !
A very good old movie called "The Tingler" starring Vincent Price

Is it possible to get DNA samples from feces? If so, how?

I am looking for other answers, but I was wondering if it removes skin cells on the way out.
Answer:
Yes, it is very possible to get DNA samples from feces. When we defecate, cells are slothed off along with our feces. Therefore, our skin cells can be extracted easily. Yes, you will have other DNA mixed in, but simple testing will be able to exclude the other cells.By looking under a microscope, and running some procedures you can separate the skin cells from the other cells. Then you would lyse these cells, treat with endonucleases and then you can run them on a gel. It's a little more complicated than getting normal skin cells but it is possible.Good luck!
I would think it wouldn't be desirable, because you would have the potential for DNA from the food you eat to be mixed in with your own DNA. I'm not sure how you would be able to separate one from the other.

is it possible to get a serological (eg oxoid strep) test for identifying bacteria if so where?

Answer:
I think you have answered your own question - The company that supplies Oxoid Strep is "Oxoid"
Antisera for identifying groups of Streptococci are available from any medical supply house.

Is it possible to find out a baby's blood type before they are born?

If you can't why not?
Answer:
No problem, if you can get a sample of the fetal blood. You'd have to have a pretty good reason for doing it though, because it is risk to puncture the amniotic sac (chorioamnionitis, premature labor).
of course, you just stick a needle in them through the mother's stomach. maybe you can also tell from the amniotic fluid, but i'm not sure.
It's safer to wait and test the cord blood after the birth.
If this is to establish or exclude parentage, blood groups are unreliable, due to the large number of possible combinations.
If you get a sample of amniotic fluid, you will be able to get a DNA analysis done.
Yes, it's possible. My teacher's wife had to have it done. Something about the baby could have a certain blood type that would mix and would cause harm to the mother.I believe the process is called amniocentisis. They will test it if there are certain risks.

Is it possible to extract nicotine from tobacco without specialized equipment or chemicals?

Probably but who would smoke, they would go broke the nicotine gets you hooked

Is it possible to ever get rid of the fat acquired from taking prednisone for a long time?

Answer:
Of course. Much of the weight gain is fluid, regardless the additional weight will have to be lost the old fashioned way, through diet and exercise. One thought, although diet and exercise are essential, the first step is having the prednisone dose decreased or stopped altogether. The weight gained is through increased visceral and truncal fat deposition, the hardest to lose, but most important because this fat is the most dangerous to health, especially in men.I did a rather extensive Internet search and it's difficult because of all the sites devoted to anabolic steroids. Proper sleep is very important regarding steroid weight loss. I've listed a website below that talks about this subject and recommends some ways to combat this type of weight gain. I hestitate to do so, but any info is better than none. I hope this helps.Rick the Pharmacist
I took prednisone from 12/2005 - 6/2006. I haven't shed a pound. I started running, low-calorie dieting, low carb...nothing worked. The only thing that started me to losing a slight amount of weight was starving myself for days on end.
You may now have Cushing's syndrome.
It is so hard to lose any weight with this disease regardless of what you do.www.cushings-help.com
Hope that helps.

Is it possible to drown by falling asleep in the bath, or would it always wake you up?

Answer:
like the other person said, it is possible especially if you have had alcoholic beverages, or if you are a deep sleeper, but also if you have had a long hard day at work or have worked for (let's say) 24 hours straight through. It is possible to drown in the tub, even in only enough water to cover the mouth and nose.
You should wake up. Unless you are under influence of a drug or alcohol, or pills.
do you fall asleep face down or face up? come on! we need details :-)
In normal conditions you will wake up. In case you dont then there is some problem and needs consulation with a medical doctor.
I have fell asleep plenty of times in a royal bath with servant women bathing me,...its most relaxing to the Majesty!
Let's do a clinical study... you try it out and see what happens!
naturally you should wake up or at least move to get oxygen, but sometimes the brain doesn't react. Recently there was a small article in the week about babies not turning around in their sleep when a blanket or something was covering their face, ti is now considered a birth defect
If the tub is big enough and deep enough yes you could drown. You might wake up but if you are a very deep sleeper you could drown. I always wake up in cold water as my tub isn't large enough for me to slip down in.

Is it possible to die from not drinking anything and only eating foods without moisture?

Answer:
Yes, it's certainly possible and it does happen. It's called dehydration.
no i don't think so
No, go ahead and try it...
YES, of course! ( Man, what do they teach them these days?!)
YES...
I dont know
Considering the human body is 97% liquid/water, yes.Think of the cells - they need fluid.GOD bless us one and all, always.
yes. it has been recorded that you can only live without water for 40 days.
Yes. A person can only live about 3 days without water.
you can die from dehydration but it will take a long time
I seriously think that that is a terrible idea. No offense to anyone out there. Anyway, you can die if you don't drink/consume anything with water. Your cells need water or else they will dry out or something along the lines of that. Like other people have said, you can DIE OF DEHYDRATION. Duh.
yes, here is the scientific explanation. you need water (to make a long explanation short) your cells need water for most of their chemical reactions, yes i know what you are thinking. but if your cell needs energy it needs to break up stored energy by breaking it apart with chemical reactions.
YES, You lose water at a rate of 4 ml/kg/hr per 1st 10kg then add 2mg/kg per hour for 2nd 10kg, then add 1ml/kg/hr for additional kg above 20 kg. ie 70kg man looses 40+20+50=90cc/hr x 24hr/day=2160cc/day. About 70 ounces of water each day.

Is it possible to determine the time of death (to the month or year) of a body buried in soil for over 10yrs?

I am writing a novel where a man's body is found in someone's backgarden (ie in the soil). It has been there for over 10 years and one needs to assume that decomposition went ahead as normal in a non openly aerated environment. Is it possible to determine if it has been there for 10 years and 1 month, or in years? is it possible to distinguish between 10 and 11 years, 10 and 13 years or more?
Answer:
Yes, it is possible. First, the investigator must identify the deceased by photographing the maxilla and mandible (jaw bones) and submitting the picture to a crime/forensics lab for possible matches. Crime labs normally have a databases for dental records in which the computer will generate a list of the closest matches and the scientist will narrow down that list by visual comparison. Next, the identity can be further verified by comparing bone samples to radiographs in the deceased's medical records (long bones such as the humerus or femur if they are intact provide the best comparison). For example, bone length, varus and valgus angles, and bony landmarks are measured and compared to the x-rays. Given that this confirms the identity of the deceased, and database searches reveal no death certificate, the investigation continues. Next, the investigator will need an osteologist to analyze the bones. This analysis will reveal the approximate age of the deceased at time of death. This approximation is then added (in years) to the subject's date of birth, which should be found in the medical records. The sum is the approximate year the subject died. If the investigator wants to know the exact month, he must rebury the bones in the same or very similar garden (same soil, same depth) for at least a year in order to compute the rate of decalcification. The decalcification rate (which is stated in micrometers per month) is then divided from the total amount of decalcified bone tissue (in micrometers). The quotient is the number of months that have elapsed since decalcification began (the time of tissue death, given that bone decay was uniformly present). This will narrow down the time of death within one month.
There are many other ways of figuring out the year and/or month of death, but given that at least 10 years had passed since the time of death, the bones and clothing of the deceased would be considered most significant to the investigation.
Yes but there need to be clues as to when the body was buried ie: a ticket stub from a theater or an unused ticket for an event or show, a sales receipt ( for cash if the body is to be anonymous at this point) if there is a crime lab involved pollen can be used or perhaps a dead insect on the body or caught in the clothing or hair will help, the clothing itself can provide a clue shorts and short sleeves are one clue a light jacket and jeans are another and a heavy coat is yet another indicator of the time of year the death occurred there are several clever ways that you can use to hide evidence of time of death on a body such as the sales receipt caught in the small pocket of a pair of jeans the change pocket you know the small one on the right front that no one ever checks and few people actually use or in the shirt pocket or perhaps a money belt was worn by the victim or perhaps he had a distinctive dental feature that was altered ie had a mug shot taken in Feb. and had a gold tooth done in march and disappeared in April or broke his arm in may and still has cast in place but the bone is mostly healed that will narrow it down to a few week window combined with other clues this can further pin point the time of death be inventive and the right way to do it for your dead body will make itself apparent.
