Is it safe, and would it work if i too 3 tabs of 50mg to make up for 150mg?

I have been prescribed fluconazole from docs each tab is 50mg and i have to take 2 tabs one a week for 7 weeks. I read the leaflet and it says usually the dose given is one 150mg only. Would it work if i took 3 tabs of the 50mg?

More than likely not. Your doctor has prescribed long-term therapy for a reason. The 150mg one-time dose is for vaginal candidiasis ONLY! Taking fluconazole for a shorter period than prescribed may lead to recurrence of active infection.

Fluconazole dosing all depends on the type of infection and its location in your body. The daily dose of fluconazole for the treatment of infections other than vaginal candidiasis should be based on the infecting organism and the patient's response to therapy. Treatment should be continued until clinical parameters or laboratory tests indicate that active fungal infection has subsided. Patients with AIDS and cryptococcal meningitis or recurrent oropharyngeal candidiasis usually require maintenance therapy to prevent relapse.Again, do not change your regimen without talking to your doctor first. you should take it the way your dr. wants you to take it. as some medicines shouldnt be split up. call your md and find out.

it should work in that you will receive the appropriate amount of medicine into your system.. the only thing i am not sure about is whether it is going to be properly deliveredsome medicines are timed-released.. they have components in them that slow down the absorption rate of the pill causing the medicine to slowly be delivered to you throughout the day or set time periodid call your doctor just to be sure, although i imagine it would be fine

It doesn't matter what the dosage normally taken is. You should only take how much has been prescribed by your Dr... they prescribed that amount to you for a reason... just stick to what's on the label.

Nope..use it as your doctor directs. More than likely, he has a reason for the dose. Even if the "usual" dose is 150mg, that doesn't mean you are taking it for that condition it is "usually" prescribed for. If you have questions, contact your MD or his/her nurse.

Since its a antimicrobial drug their should not be any problem as such, and then the tablet would not contain any other substance as well, and hence it would work out, but then it is always better to go by the way the doctor suggests. for u may not be aware of other facts that go with it.. and the various theories that are related to the dosage preperation..
