is it possible to get a serological (eg oxoid strep) test for identifying bacteria if so where?

Answer:
I think you have answered your own question - The company that supplies Oxoid Strep is "Oxoid"
Antisera for identifying groups of Streptococci are available from any medical supply house.

Is it possible to find out a baby's blood type before they are born?

If you can't why not?
Answer:
No problem, if you can get a sample of the fetal blood. You'd have to have a pretty good reason for doing it though, because it is risk to puncture the amniotic sac (chorioamnionitis, premature labor).
of course, you just stick a needle in them through the mother's stomach. maybe you can also tell from the amniotic fluid, but i'm not sure.
It's safer to wait and test the cord blood after the birth.
If this is to establish or exclude parentage, blood groups are unreliable, due to the large number of possible combinations.
If you get a sample of amniotic fluid, you will be able to get a DNA analysis done.
Yes, it's possible. My teacher's wife had to have it done. Something about the baby could have a certain blood type that would mix and would cause harm to the mother.I believe the process is called amniocentisis. They will test it if there are certain risks.

Is it possible to extract nicotine from tobacco without specialized equipment or chemicals?

Answer:
Soaking in water.
Yes, in water. It was used as an early form of insecticide.
Probably but who would smoke, they would go broke the nicotine gets you hooked

Is it possible to ever get rid of the fat acquired from taking prednisone for a long time?

Answer:
Of course. Much of the weight gain is fluid, regardless the additional weight will have to be lost the old fashioned way, through diet and exercise. One thought, although diet and exercise are essential, the first step is having the prednisone dose decreased or stopped altogether. The weight gained is through increased visceral and truncal fat deposition, the hardest to lose, but most important because this fat is the most dangerous to health, especially in men.I did a rather extensive Internet search and it's difficult because of all the sites devoted to anabolic steroids. Proper sleep is very important regarding steroid weight loss. I've listed a website below that talks about this subject and recommends some ways to combat this type of weight gain. I hestitate to do so, but any info is better than none. I hope this helps.Rick the Pharmacist
I took prednisone from 12/2005 - 6/2006. I haven't shed a pound. I started running, low-calorie dieting, low carb...nothing worked. The only thing that started me to losing a slight amount of weight was starving myself for days on end.
You may now have Cushing's syndrome.
It is so hard to lose any weight with this disease regardless of what you do.www.cushings-help.com
Hope that helps.

Is it possible to drown by falling asleep in the bath, or would it always wake you up?

Answer:
like the other person said, it is possible especially if you have had alcoholic beverages, or if you are a deep sleeper, but also if you have had a long hard day at work or have worked for (let's say) 24 hours straight through. It is possible to drown in the tub, even in only enough water to cover the mouth and nose.
You should wake up. Unless you are under influence of a drug or alcohol, or pills.
do you fall asleep face down or face up? come on! we need details :-)
In normal conditions you will wake up. In case you dont then there is some problem and needs consulation with a medical doctor.
I have fell asleep plenty of times in a royal bath with servant women bathing me,...its most relaxing to the Majesty!
Let's do a clinical study... you try it out and see what happens!
naturally you should wake up or at least move to get oxygen, but sometimes the brain doesn't react. Recently there was a small article in the week about babies not turning around in their sleep when a blanket or something was covering their face, ti is now considered a birth defect
If the tub is big enough and deep enough yes you could drown. You might wake up but if you are a very deep sleeper you could drown. I always wake up in cold water as my tub isn't large enough for me to slip down in.

Is it possible to die from not drinking anything and only eating foods without moisture?

Answer:
Yes, it's certainly possible and it does happen. It's called dehydration.
no i don't think so
No, go ahead and try it...
YES, of course! ( Man, what do they teach them these days?!)
YES...
I dont know
Considering the human body is 97% liquid/water, yes.Think of the cells - they need fluid.GOD bless us one and all, always.
yes. it has been recorded that you can only live without water for 40 days.
Yes. A person can only live about 3 days without water.
you can die from dehydration but it will take a long time
I seriously think that that is a terrible idea. No offense to anyone out there. Anyway, you can die if you don't drink/consume anything with water. Your cells need water or else they will dry out or something along the lines of that. Like other people have said, you can DIE OF DEHYDRATION. Duh.
yes, here is the scientific explanation. you need water (to make a long explanation short) your cells need water for most of their chemical reactions, yes i know what you are thinking. but if your cell needs energy it needs to break up stored energy by breaking it apart with chemical reactions.
YES, You lose water at a rate of 4 ml/kg/hr per 1st 10kg then add 2mg/kg per hour for 2nd 10kg, then add 1ml/kg/hr for additional kg above 20 kg. ie 70kg man looses 40+20+50=90cc/hr x 24hr/day=2160cc/day. About 70 ounces of water each day.

Is it possible to determine the time of death (to the month or year) of a body buried in soil for over 10yrs?

I am writing a novel where a man's body is found in someone's backgarden (ie in the soil). It has been there for over 10 years and one needs to assume that decomposition went ahead as normal in a non openly aerated environment. Is it possible to determine if it has been there for 10 years and 1 month, or in years? is it possible to distinguish between 10 and 11 years, 10 and 13 years or more?
Answer:
Yes, it is possible. First, the investigator must identify the deceased by photographing the maxilla and mandible (jaw bones) and submitting the picture to a crime/forensics lab for possible matches. Crime labs normally have a databases for dental records in which the computer will generate a list of the closest matches and the scientist will narrow down that list by visual comparison. Next, the identity can be further verified by comparing bone samples to radiographs in the deceased's medical records (long bones such as the humerus or femur if they are intact provide the best comparison). For example, bone length, varus and valgus angles, and bony landmarks are measured and compared to the x-rays. Given that this confirms the identity of the deceased, and database searches reveal no death certificate, the investigation continues. Next, the investigator will need an osteologist to analyze the bones. This analysis will reveal the approximate age of the deceased at time of death. This approximation is then added (in years) to the subject's date of birth, which should be found in the medical records. The sum is the approximate year the subject died. If the investigator wants to know the exact month, he must rebury the bones in the same or very similar garden (same soil, same depth) for at least a year in order to compute the rate of decalcification. The decalcification rate (which is stated in micrometers per month) is then divided from the total amount of decalcified bone tissue (in micrometers). The quotient is the number of months that have elapsed since decalcification began (the time of tissue death, given that bone decay was uniformly present). This will narrow down the time of death within one month.
There are many other ways of figuring out the year and/or month of death, but given that at least 10 years had passed since the time of death, the bones and clothing of the deceased would be considered most significant to the investigation.
Yes but there need to be clues as to when the body was buried ie: a ticket stub from a theater or an unused ticket for an event or show, a sales receipt ( for cash if the body is to be anonymous at this point) if there is a crime lab involved pollen can be used or perhaps a dead insect on the body or caught in the clothing or hair will help, the clothing itself can provide a clue shorts and short sleeves are one clue a light jacket and jeans are another and a heavy coat is yet another indicator of the time of year the death occurred there are several clever ways that you can use to hide evidence of time of death on a body such as the sales receipt caught in the small pocket of a pair of jeans the change pocket you know the small one on the right front that no one ever checks and few people actually use or in the shirt pocket or perhaps a money belt was worn by the victim or perhaps he had a distinctive dental feature that was altered ie had a mug shot taken in Feb. and had a gold tooth done in march and disappeared in April or broke his arm in may and still has cast in place but the bone is mostly healed that will narrow it down to a few week window combined with other clues this can further pin point the time of death be inventive and the right way to do it for your dead body will make itself apparent.

Is it possible to create a centaur by transplant?

Answer:
No, your trying to splice two different genomes together... Animal and Humans don't share the same genetic code, DNA to do this...If you tried it, whom ever volunteered to be transplanted would die. The horse would have died because the brain was disconnected and vital organs stopped when it happened. Since our brain is connected to keep the heart pumping, and since the heart of a horse is so different, our brains wouldnt keep it going as thier chambers are more than ours are, or they dont beat the same, plus the various muscles couldnt be grafted to our synapse to control over.I wish you well..Jesse
no
Currently seems no.May be possible in future.

Is it possible to correct partial skull deformities with surgery during the teen years?

According to a friend of mine, he said that surgeons can reshape the jaw, face, and skull even into adulthood, not just infancy. Does anyone know how true this is? I'm just curious.
Answer:
Doctors prefer to wait until the skull has stopped growing to preform corrective surgery. But often operate on people of all ages, especially if deformities are life threatening etc. Otherwise more surgery may be needed. Surgeons can do amazing reconstructive work now. They use Teflon, and other materials to replace missing bone.
Google search flat head syndrome
Yes, ask your Doctor. Look at the Discovery Health Channel web page.

is it possible to clone yourself or clone someone in this year of 2007 with all the medical technology we have

Answer:
yes i suppose... technology is very developped today so i think cloning someone is not something difficult for scientists...
Cloning is possible
Not yet!
I think the technology is there: it's just not legal. I'm assuming that you want a complete clone of yourself, and not just a few cells for theraputic purposes, which is legal in some jurisdictions. Just one question for you: why would you want to clone yourself?
I was thinking.I miss my cat Cleo...She died a couple years ago...My cat Lucy is now 5...I love her so much she is the best companion...I don't want her to leave me. I would continue to clone her to have her with me always...I feel there is nothing wrong with that.Cloning people though...hmmm...I have a relative's DNA who has passed away. Now, I would bring him back if I could. I will never have enough money to pay for the process so he will have to rest. I have read up on all the technology concerning cloning, but will look to the scientists for answers here. Your question sparked my interest! good luck.
Other mammals are currently being cloned successfully.
Ethical debates aside, if you're want to clone yourself and have them live to your age- no. We've cloned animals yes, but they have plenty of defects. And success percentage, even in the highest is like 3% for birth. Survival rate till adulthood without crippling/abnormal symptoms is also horribly low.

Is it possible to clone T-helper cells for use in the treatment of HIV / Aids??

Assuming one finds unaffected T-helper cells to clone...
Answer:
Yes, and it's interesting that you mention that, because my school gave us a lecture on that very topic. The T-cells, once they establish self-tolerance, could be selected for resistance against the virus, and cloned to reestablish the T-cell population within the immunocompromised host. It is currently very complicated and expensive though, so the technology is being developed, but it is thought to be a potential therapy that may one day greatly benefit patients.
T-helper cells are matured and developed from stem cells within the body and are not created in the laboratory yet.

Is it possible to change my eye color by surgery?

I was born with hazel eyes but I would like to change them to blue. And contacts are too much trouble. Can you change your eye color by surgery?
Answer:
Be happy with the eyes God gave you!! Most people want eye surgery so that they can SEE! If you're just going to waste all that money on a surgery that cant even be preformed, than you shouldnt have all that money in the first place.
no i don't think docs can do that yet
do you know how much trouble eye surgery is? especially pretend eye color changing surgery.
Unfortunately no. But, you can go to your optometrist and order some color contacts. Hope that was helpful. =)
No!
No, you'd have to replace the iris, which is so far beyond medical capability.
NO!
No, medicine cannot do that yet. They are too busy working on a cure for vanity.
as far as i know, you can't change your eye color by surgery BUT you can use contact lenses with different colors.

is it possible to be tested for dioxin poisioning?

i am an agent orange baby, my father was in veitnam
Answer:
It takes about 80 ml of blood and cost $1,200 several years ago.
see: http://www.sph.umich.edu/dioxin/pdf/bloo...
Yes, but not too many labs do dioxin testing. Even The VA doesn't.

Is it possible to be a surgeon and still have a social life?

I'm looking into becoming a surgeon, and before spending a massive amount of money on college I want to be sure this is what I want to do. And so it comes down to the question, can i become a surgeon and still have a life outside of the job? I want a husband, kids, and three dogs...but does becoming a surgeon prohibit this from becoming reality??And also, if it is possible, what specific line of surgeons are capable of having a social life and a job they want?
Answer:
yes you can have a social life. as with any doctor - you shouldn't party in the town in which you practice.Yes, you can have a husband, kids, and three dogs too. You'll be on call and your priorities have to be saving patients. So that means on the Christmases that you're on call - you might have to leave to save a life. it would become your duty. But family can understand with the proper explaining.Your best bet is non-emergency surgery. That would be an orthopaedic surgeon. Those surgeries are scheduled. Neurosurgery and cardiovascular surgery could be last minute kinda thing.
Surgery is very difficult to have the above mentioned list. It's a very demanding specialty and has less tolerance for scheduling changes, being pregnant, etc. I suppose you could do this, if you waited having a family after a lot of your training was complete... which takes about 14 years (4 yrs college, 4 yrs medical school, about 6 yrs of training for surgery..) Good luck! However, if you find a very understanding hubby, this would be VERY helpful... unfortunately, most men aren't like this, so this may prove difficult.
Yes its possible but u have to remember that being any kind of surgeons is very hard work.Good Luck to u! :)
Of course it is. Be aware, however, that a woman with an education is frightening to some men, despite the advances women have made in the workforce and elsewhere over the past fifty years. What that means is, you'll have a smaller pool of eligible bachelors from which to choose a mate. You'll likely find yourself dating your fellow professionals - and be aware there are as many "playas" amongst them!
Do NOT give up on your goals for the sake of a social life. There's more to life, and humankind desperately needs skilled, caring surgeons far more than someone who's good at schmoozin' and boozin' and slinking around in pearls and curls. They're called "bimbos" and we've quite enough of those. Women with confidence and class are rare - I sincerely hope you're one of them!
you'll have all the things u mentioned but dont expect to spend tons of nights chillin in bars and stuff
yes
Become a surgeon. You'll have to work hard and probably take a lot of crap, but as you mature and become more experienced you will be given more responsability. with this responsability you will advance (as long as you perform well) and soon you will find a way to delegate some responsabilities to a newer surgeon and free up time to spend all the great money that you make.and so the cycle will go on. This is how it is from plumbers to architects to ironworkers to surgeons.
After 4 years of medical school, 5 years of residency, when you get no sleep, and 2 more years of subspecialty like plastic surgery, you are expected to be on call for surgical emergencies 24/7. It is a rare breed of person who can still find time to find a husband, kids, and 3 dogs.

Try urology or plastic surgery. Then you may have a social life.
If you want a family, take the advice of an orthopaedic surgeon I know and don't wait to have kids. You'll need a 4 year college degree with an emphasis on the four cornerstones of the study of medicine: chemisty, physics, mathematics, and English. You'll need to excel in those areas and keep a high grade point average with high MCAT scores. After 4 years of college and 4 years of medical school there are 4 years of residency training in the specialty in which you choose to practice. If you want to become a surgeon though, the residency is 6 to 8 years.Medical school is very demanding, residency is hell, with physicians often working up to 80 hours a week. Relationships and dating are impossible to maintain. A PBS documentary showed a 90% divorce rate among couples where one person was a medical resident or student.18 to 20 years. Can you wait that long?
It won't prevent your having a social life, only delay it. Even general surgeons can do OK simply through call-sharing. If you go on to subspecialization, plastics would be preferable to cardiothoracic surgery, just to name a couple, to keep a life.
I'm not a surgeon, but I work with them. I took the smarter route, and became an anesthesiologist. We still get the fun of playing in the OR all day, but without the office hours and endless rounds. The surgeons I know have social lives, but they paid their dues during training. You have to do what you love, and if you find that you love surgery (and you cannot know this until you are in your third year of medical school and living it), then you will do what it takes to become one.I married a very understanding man who is not in medicine, and we have 3 kids and a great life (no dogs, though. Just horses, cats and a bunny). Pretty much all surgeons take call, but if you get in a large enough group, that can be shared.Ophthalmologists don't get called in a lot, but there is debate as to whether they are real surgeons or not (that's a joke, sort of). Orthopedics get called in A LOT, as do general surgeons and trauma surgeons.Your surgical subspecialty is something you will choose in medical school or during residency. Again, you'll have to do what you love. Consider anesthesiology :) My last call was in December 2001.
Don't go into medicine at all. Even if you can have a family and social life, you will have to put it off for many years while you do medical school, residency, and possibly fellowship. Instead of having a life, you will be often treated like crap and you will be accumulating debt. You will graduate to a life of falling salary, increasing law suits, middle-of-the-night emergencies, and a society that values basketball players more than doctors. Did you know that Medicare will be cutting reimbursements 5% annually every year until 2012?

Is it possible that some people are not affected by Vicodin and other painkillers?

without any tolerance. I try to take painkillers like Vicodin and Codeine, but there's no effect at all. It doesn't even make me sleepy or relieve pain.
Answer:
I read a study once that said 80 percent of people aren't helped by codeine. I don't know about vicodin. I do know that morphine doesn't do a thing to kill my pain, so I've been reduced to the point of telling my doctors and others that I'm allergic to it because that's the only way to deal with it. If I tell them it doesn't work, they don't believe it. So if vicodin or codeine don't help, just say you're allergic to it, and they'll try somehing else.
Maybe you are taking Tylenol.
Well it should take care of the pain unless you are in some major pain. Pain pills don't make me sleepy either no i take that back percocets did when i had a tooth pulled but they were 10mgs
Medicine effects people in different ways
Yes-it's called an idiosyncratic reaction. My mom can get IV narcotics and it doesn't affect her.

Is it possible in future ( based on medical inventions ) for a HUMAN BEING to live forever?

What i mean is can death be avoided.
Answer:
I THINK IT IS POSSIBLE. Honestly, not just from a supernatural stand-point, but with scientific backing. People are studying apoptosis or the cell death phenomenon that is essentially, at the cellular level death. Well, if one day scientist fully understand this mechanism, i believe they will beable to either make the anti-death pill or create some sort of genetic mutant that does not die as easily. However, science cannot stop a car from running you over or cancer from killing you, YET! So anyways, yes i think it is possible in the future, the ethical question is should it be implicated??
No, but who the heck would want to live forever? I just want to accomplish my mission on this planet and get the heck outta here! :%26gt;
No.
Forever is quite impossible and remember death is a necessary biological phemenon which help nature to maintain a good ecological cycle.
Probably not. The future is a long time, so predictions are risky, but the limiting factor on human life is the number of spare bases on each of the autosomal genes. One of these gets lost at each cell division, so when you run out of spares, you start losing the good stuff, and things start going to pot in a hurry. This is the scientific reason why the tales of long-lived people in the bible are fictitious.
Yes, and fairly soon..Probably within your lifetime..
Perhaps in the next 25 - 30 years.
short answer NO. long answer. No because most systems of the human body are unalbe to regenerate after a certain amount of time. these systems would be the heart, lungs, liver, and nuerons. it's kind of tough to live when you can't breath, eat, pump blood or think. I'm not a fan of being a 400 year old grapefriut. just shot me if it ever comes to that.
Until we get to the future to see, I can't say it's impossible. However, every single signal emitted from the brain can be mimicked by today's computers. More and more different types of organs are getting transplanted. It's not entirely impossible that someday we might be able to transplant our brain into a cloned body or bionic body. We can't do it now, but that does not change the possibility.
No.But longer yes.In 1930 USA longevity was 45 years to day it is 74 years but it is beginning to drop a little.Certain deceases that are mainly age related that has not surfaced, that may show up in large numbers.Humans are already the longest living mammals in teams longevity.
No. Living forever is not desirable.
Technically yes.
you can do it...but would u wanna b 632 years old... or date a 587 yrs old lady?Sounds ridiculous.doesnt it.
till now there is no such a scientific invention..why are you asking like that? are u afraid of death? live your life happily %26 enjoy it
its not at all possible. because if all human beings are live what about the opurtunities for new generation and and death also we cant avoide. humans can increase the human life sapn, that to only for limited period .

Is it possible for ur brain to melt?

I heard in science class that if u get a fever of ovr 104, ur brain can start to melt. i once got a fever in 3rd grade of almost 105. would this explain why i have a bad memory and can't work math that well?
Answer:
your brain is a biological item, it will not melt into a liquid state, but will decompose. When you fever reaches a certain rate, your brain cells will die one by one. your bad memory is not caused by this as we only use 8% of our brain. Try studying harder.
Um, no, this is completely false.
yes because when you die you begin to decompose on that can be described as melting metaphorically speaking. that is about it.
your brain can melt...and you probably lack in memorization and math because you have been told that your brain has been melted..it may be a probable answer, but don't count on it
Is it possible for a steak to melt? The brain is a tissue material like skin, bone, and muscle. It's not gelatinous as it might seem. It can't melt, but an extremely high fever can cause febrile seizures and brain damage. But it's not until a very high fever...and 105 isn't likely going to do it at a young age. 107.6 is the point of brain damage. Some people are just better than others at math. I suck at math, but am good with biology and English. My husband sucks at English and is great with math. Go figure.
A fever does not usually cause your brain cells to `die`, as suggested by others here. However, like the rest of the cells in your body, when you have symptoms that show your body is not normal, this means your body is failing to function normally. A high temperature is often a way for your body to compensate when fighting disease and bacteria. Like the rest of your body, your brain could temporarily perform less than normal, but permanent damage (such as you suggest, melting) to occur is not possible. Brain cells often die either from: natural cell death (aging), trauma (injuries), loss of blood to the brain. The word melt implies that matter is physically changing from one state of solid to a state of liquid, which does not happen, per se, with human tissue, at livable temperatures.
In a sense, it is possible for a kind of melting to occur, but not generally due to high fever. Liquefactive necrosis may occur in the brain because of prolonged ischemia (lack of blood) or even hypoglycemia, because nervous tissue is tremendously sensitive to hypoglycemia. However, to attribute your poor memory and lack of math skills due to liquefactive necrosis is unlikely. You'd probably have much more severe neurological deficits than that -- i.e. mental retardation, paralysis, etc.

is it possible for the flu to come and go with in 5 days?

Answer:
Yes.
yes, its even possible for a flu to come and go in 24 hours
Yes I do beleive that could be the case
Yes. The new strain of the virus, causing the flu this year, doesn't seem to have a "time limit." Our family has experienced illness, feeling better, only to relapse, one, two, or three times during a months time. And the flu vaccine that was given does not affect it much, as it was taken from a different strain of the virus.Drink lots of fluids, take Tylenol or another pain reliever a few times a day, and ride it out. If you become very ill, please go to a doctor. One person in Wisconsin died from the flu.
Be Careful and Good Luck
yes and they call that a rebound effect. talk to your MD. he or she may has a vaccine for you. if you are taking over the counter medicine, follow direction on the box and take as directed for the therapeutic effect.

Is it possible for someone to have brown eyes if both of there parents have blue eyes?

Answer:
It's possible.
Of course. It could be from their great great great...( i don't know how far it can go back) but yes...recessive genes they are called! =)
no, you must be adopted, your real parents didnt love you.
No, because brown is dominant and if both parents have the dominant color, it's not possible for kids to have recessive (blue).Edit - sorry, misread your question. I thought you were asking the other way around (can two brown eyed parents have blue eyed children). Yes, it's possible for dominant gene to surface even if both parents exhibit recessive.
Yes brown eyes is dominant and all it takes is someone in the family to have brown eyes than that chromosome can be passed to the baby and the baby can have brown eyes
About 1 in 1,000,000.Blue eyes are recessive genes. That means if either parent had anything but blue, your eyes would be that other color. Of course, the sponaneous mutation rate is 1 in 1,000,000 and you could be a rare exception. In the hospital were I work, 1 in 4 family members volunteering for organ donation to another family member is actually found to be unrelated -- meaning daddy wasn't daddy. In Vegas, I would bet against mutation every time. Infidelity is a much more likely explanation. If you're not sure, get a genetics book and confront your mother with it. (Or your wife, if that's the case.) Good luck and sorry for the bad news.
Yes it is. One or both of your parents may carry the gene.
though the probability is low maybe 25 %
Yes. Chances are there are other people in your family that have brown eyes and their genes show up in your child. (For instance, G'ma has brown eyes, I have blue, child has brown).
Yes it is. The color of a person's eyes depends on the genes that are passed along from both parents. If both parents carry the gene for brown eyes, it is possible that they will produce a child that has brown eyes.
yes eye pupils and corneas aren't in dna it al depends on how your eye reacts to light dark and the circumstances
Oh yes! My aunt and uncle both, have brown eyes but 3 out of their 5 children, (my cousins) have blue eyes. They got their blue eyes from our grandmother!
Yes, like the first person said, you can have recessive genes from a family member in your bloodline.
Not possible. Blue eyes are a recessive gene and if both parents have that trait, their DNA carries ONLY blue eyes. If one parent even had one brown gene in them, their eye color would be brown because brown is dominant. They only gene they can pass on to their child is therefor, blue.
yest, it is possible because we can have the shape and color of our seven generation back
No. Blue eyes are the result of a recessive gene. To have blue eyes, you must have two recessive alleles, and no brown eye dominant genes. However, since this doesn't follow simple genetics, there is a very slight chance, about 1 in 100,000,000 cases.
No. The genes for brown eyes are dominant. Blue eyes are a recessive trait. If both parents had blue eyes, then neither of them possess the trait for brown eyees, and theycouldn't have produced a brown-eyed offspring. If I were the father, I'd be having a long talk with the brown-eyed mailman.
No. The genes for blue eyes are recessive.
Yes it is very possible. My husband has green eyes and I have brown eyes. Our son has blue eyes.
Yes, of course. Genetic inheritance. It is possible also to have an eye of each color. I know somebody that has a green eye and the other brown. For the nature, everything is possible.::
yes it is possible. it is very rare for two blue eyed people to have a brown eyed child. but not impossible.
Yes, if one of their grandparents have brown eyes. My youngest sister has really dark brown eyes, neither of my parents do, but my grandma on my Dad's side, and my grandpa on my Mom's side had brown eyes.
Eye color is a complicated trait involving 3 genes. (this is an incomplete model though). The genes for blue eyes are recessive so, if mom has blue and dad has blue they have blue-blue/blue-blue genes.so they can have blue eyed kids.
Now does one have light green/almost blue?
Then it gets complicated!Check out the link below it have an interactive calculator of eye color!"The known Human Eye color genes are: EYCL1 (also called gey), the Green/blue eye color gene, located on chromosome 19 (though there is also evidence that another gene with similar activity exists but is not on chromosome 19). EYCL2 (also called bey1), the central brown eye color gene, possibly located on chromosome 15. EYCL3 (also called bey2), the Brown/blue eye color gene located on chromosome 15. A second gene for green has also been postulated. Other eye colors including grey and hazel are not yet explained. We do not yet know what these genes make, or how they produce eye colors. The two gene model (EYCL1 and EYCL3) used above explains only a portion of human eye color inheritance. Both additional eye color genes and modifier genes are almost certainly involved."
NO it is not possible for a child of two blue eyed parents to have a brown eyed child. this is actually the only situation in terms of eye color where it is really this cut and dry. two browns can have any color two greens any color and any combo of any of these could have any color due to genes, but again the way that I learned it in college is two blues equal blue period. if you would like some more info I would go to any web site where it talks about your basic antatomy and phy. I learned this little bit of info in my first class on the basic principles
According to a Stanford geneticist, it is possible but not probable for two blue eyed people to have a brown eyed child.
Yes it is possible. Really eye color is a polygenic trait, meaning more than 1 gene (3 i think) contribute to eye color. Also the color of eyes does not follow simple Mendelian genetics. It simplifies things to say that brown is dominant and blue is recessive because generally that is the case. Not everything is life is as simple as just recessive or dominant. Genetics can be quite complex, and when you have several genes playing a role on a trait, its difficult to predict what the trait will be. You can't just do a punnett square with 2 alleles bb vs bb to get the answer. There are at least 3 genes (6 alleles!) to contribute to eye color (and those are just the ones known). You can see how you could get several combinations. Then when you account for the non-Mendelian genetics where you can get blending of colors, etc. etc. So yes it is possible to have brown eyes if both parents have blue.
Yes. Eyecolor is determined by several pairs of alleles that assort over about eigth hues of eye color, from pale blue to dark brown. If both parents are 3/4 or 7/8 blue, there is a chance that their offspring may have darker eyes than either parent.
blue (bb) eyes are resessive so I don't see how offspring can have brown (BB, Bb) eyes which are dominent.
No.The human gene for brown eyes is dominant, and blue eyes are recessive. You have two genes for eye color, if there is a mix,
the dominant one takes over. Hence,Brown+Brown = Brown.
Brown+Blue = Brown.
Blue + Brown = Brown.
Blue + Blue = Blue.If both your parents have blue eyes, they only have
blue eye color genes to give you. You get one from
each parent. I use "you" here as a convenience. I'm not saying
anything about you or your parents. Good luck.
That's incredible. The best answer is ironically from the person which calls himself "Ignoramus". Please listen to him! He is wise!

Is it possible for one to make an effective stethoscope by themselves? If so, how?

My cousin is doing a project at Uni and she asked me whether i knew if there was a way to do this. Is there and what do you need to do to make a stethoscope?Cheers
Answer:
Material needed
(2) buttons About the size of a nickle
12" mono-filament fishing line
(1) paper cup about 6 to 8 OZS
Attach a button to one end of the line
Make a very small hole in the bottom of the cup.
Slip the free end of the line through the hole
Tie the 2nd button to the end.
With 2 fingers pull the line taunt and place it over the heart, place the cup over the ear and listen.
Good luck,
a simple cardboard ear trumpet is better than nothing, but obvioulsy won't be as good ad a Litmanns !
not easy to make a high quality one. much cheaper to get one on the market. in india you can get one for as little as one or two dollars. on ebay , it is cheap as well.
2 metres of garden hose.
1 coconut, halved in two and scraped out.
1 miniature coffee cup saucer.
1 tube of superglue.
Halve the hosepipe and glue one end to each of the coconut shells. Glue the remaining 2 free ends to the saucer and - Hey Presto. A stethoscope fit for those times your stranded in the jungle..!
If I recall correctly, the stethoscope was invented by Laennec. I think he had a skilled carpenter turn a short tube on a lathe, with a small trumpet bell on one end and an earpiece on the other. Then he drilled a hole through the center.

Is it possible for an individual to override certain autonomic functions within the human body?

The body is equipped with several mechanisms to prevent override. For instance if you hold your breath long enough you will eventually pass out and begin breathing. Can a person at will override the knee tap reaction or slows his/her heart down to a stop at will? Just wondering if it is possible?
Answer:
there is a lot of research into cognitive development models for re-training people after, say, a stroke. In these studies / exercises the therapist help stroke victim re-train parts of their brains to take over the roles of damaged parts. This kind of research ties in with the work of Bio-Rhythm researchers over the last 40+ years in training individuals to actually control their pulse rate and raise / lower their blood pressure. You should look into the research done by many western universities on YOGI's who can also control body temperature and blood flow to specific parts of their bodies. The overwhelming answer seems to be that it takes training and practice but yes.
Some Indian gurus can reportedly stop their heart for a few beats.
There have been plenty of stories shown on TV that show Yogis in India doing such unbelievable feats. You might be able to search these happening on the internet.
Slowing down the heart rate is theoretically possible (and there are anecdotal reports of it), because the heart rate is regulated by the sympathetic and the parasympathetic nervous sytems, both of which have a lot to do with higher brain functions, such as emotional state, stress etc.On the other hand, the knee jerk reflex is a spinal reflex, it exist even in the bodies of brain dead persons. It is not possible to supress that by any way other than damaging the spinal cord or the peripheral nerves.

Is it possible for a woman to give birth to a black and also white baby when having twins??

I realise that this is a very unusual question but I am genuinly interested. Is it possible.
Answer:
Yes
I know because it has been done. The report was not in a tabloid, but in a reputable newspaper.
A promiscuous (duh) woman had sex with a white guy and a black guy within minutes of each other. Usually the receptivity to sperm shuts down after one hits its mark, but this was so fast that, I guess that hadn't happened yet.
The two boys were born a t the same time , but with, obviously different fathers.
Yes, with the same father, or with two different fathers. Different men can father twins.
Define black and white?
I guess, you could have 2 babies one with a lighter tone and one with a darker tone if one parent was one and the other parent was the other. They would have to be fraternal twins though, no way they could be identical.
yes if she had either 2 eggs at the same time drop and had sex with a white man and a black man or had a set of twins and one was albino
When one parent is much darker pigmented than the other, its possible that with fraternal twins (or any other siblings), one will by much lighter and one much darker. This happened with my biracial cousins, although the difference is not extreme with them. I saw an article in a magazine about biracial twins where one looked "black" and the other "white" and they noticed that even though they were twins, the lighter one was treated with a lot more privilege and respect.
All these people that are saying that it would have to be different fathers, that's just not so. Its interesting and true that twins can have separate fathers, but even with the same father, genetics can work in interesting ways.
It is possible but rare. The chances of it happening are about one in a million. Here are two links of some families with one black and one white baby (twins). The first link has a video, and the second link has pics.
IF the twins are not identical of course they could come out different skin tones because they are two different eggs. It is no different than for example both my kids have the same dad and of course since i had them the same mother yet my oldest is dark hair and darker skin and my youngest is blond and lighter skin. I am white and their dad is mexican. Now identical twins wouldnt come out different since they are identical but from two eggs sure why wouldnt or couldnt they come out different. If you two were to end up having lets say 10 kids over the years they are going to all have different shades of skin tone , some lighter and some darker.

Is it possible for a surgeon to remove part of the brain that controls reasoning and manners?

I know someone here who is a prime candidate..
Answer:
Pre-frontal lobotomy.Look up the scintillating story of Phineas Gage. Railroad spike through the head. Very sad.Lobotomies haven't been performed in the U.S. since the 1970s, but they are still (very rarely) done in some countries, including Japan, Australia, Sweden and India.
yes it is possible but why would you want to?
It's called a lobotomy. I think they've been banned in the US.
No
It's possible for anyone to remove it.

is it possible for a person who has master's degree in another field to study to be a nurse?

how lonf does it normally take to get the degree?
Answer:
A year or two, for your ADN. You will still have to take all of the nursing courses and clinical rotations. That takes about a year. Depending on what your previous major is, you might have to take a few prerequsite courses (anatomy and physiology, for one). You can probably use most of the core classes (math, english, sciences, etc) that you took for your first degree, and count them towards your nursing degree.Hope this helps...
No. You would need to take all courses included in a 4 year nursing program that you didn't take in your previous degrees.
Sure. I think it takes about 2 years to get to RN status.
Doug
The person would only need to make up basic sciences, and about two clinical years.
Yes! Go back to school as post bac and take the required classes. Many local hospitals have nursing programs that you could study in. I know lots of people that have bachelor degrees in other areas and go back to get nursing degrees. Check into a masters in health care management that would get you into the healthcare field. BUt yes it can be done.

is it okay to use someone else's antibiotics? arent all antibiotics the same?

Answer:
Please do not partake in multiuse antibiotic therapy. Hypothetically you may ask this question because you yourself have -any given- infection. (Please excuse this example). In that case your infection may be caused by:
(1) A virus particulate (norovirus, Herpes virus (zoster or simplex) Beotzim virus (enveloped or non-enveloped) or any other kind of common viruses.
(2) A bacteria/infectious fungal complex that is not debilitated by the possible antibiotic you are talking about; especially if it is penicillin based (e.g. the microbe is lacking substantial lipid-based cellular membranes, having protected cell-wall synthesis etc). Since many (most) antibiotics work on the disruption of the cell-wall synthesis, the antibiotic in question may do nothing for your given infection.
Both of these points mean that the antibiotic would be useless, and only cause more harm than good (destroying the normal gastrointestinal microbiota, disturbing flora homeostasis and so on). So the answer to your first question is no, keeping in mind not only the theory of antibiotics but also the practice. (You may/probably would take a wrong dose for you body count; you may be allergic to the formulation of the antibiotic etc.)
To answer your second point antibiotics are grouped into different categories, which are fascinating to me but terminally boring to everyone else, so suffice to say that some antibiotics work on a broad range of microbes while some act on a very small number of microbes. For example, Amoxicillin is a commonly prescribed antibiotic that treats a broad spectrum of microorganisms, when combined with a CI of penicillinase (an enzyme some bacteria use which renders penicillin almost useless). On the other hand a drug like Diiodohydroxyquin (spelled correctly) works on Amoebic infections, it is solely amoebicidal. To sum up your question, if you wouldn't use someone else's nose trimmers, don't even think about using someone else's antibiotics. Thanks for letting me answer. It's been a long day.
Antibiotics are a controlled substance by the FDA to prevent their unauthorized use or their use when antibiotics will not be efficacious. As such, it is a crime to use anyone else's prescriptions even though you might need them. Yes, they are the same...ampicillin is ampicillin. However, those pills are for them. If you need some, go see a doctor and get your own.
No , antibiotics are not all the same. They are designed for specific infections. I would not advise you to use someone else's medicine. It's best to go to the doctor and get the exact antibiotic necessary for your problem.
Antibiotics are distributed in the amount need for the purpose given, If the person they are prescribed for took all that they are prescribed there should not be any left to "share" with friends. To answer you direct question, no not all antibiotics are the same, and if you happen to be allergic to one and not the other that could cause SERIOUS trouble.
No it is not. Antibiotics and their strengths are determined by your doctor based on a couple of things. First, the weight of the patient must be taken into effect to determine the correct strength of the dose. Secondly, certain antibiotics work better on certain bacterial infections than on others. If you take someone elses medication, you could have an adverse side effect that could get you sick, or even kill you (especially children).
any medicine must be taken on the advice of the doctor because especially antibiotics if by chance some of them or any one of them is not suited for your body system or are resistant to your body or the disease, then it can be fatal. SO NEVER PLAY WITH THE ANTIBIOTICS...
You can't be that stupid, can you?
There are lots of different antibiotics used for lots of different conditions. Certain strains of bacteria are resistant to certain types of antibiotics. Antibiotics are in different classes, and each class acts in a differerent way. So all antibiotics are NOT the same. Also when the physician determines which type of antibiotic is just for the type of infection you have, they need to dose it properly. This may involve using your weight, age, etc. Which likely isn't the same as someone else. Not only that but it's illegal to use someone else's prescription medication.
as a rule no its not OK to do that. the only possible way that it would be OK to do that is if you were told to take that exact drug in that exact dose and manner by the doctor. in addition you would need to be sure the drug had not expired and had been stored properly.
anti bio tics are far from being all the same . misuse of them by people doing things like you have asked about as well as stopping taking them before they are finished without the doctors consent are all factors that had brought us to the point of super bugs . that is bacterial infections that have been exposed to anti biotic and were not completely killed before they found a way to resist the anti biotic thus the bug lives on multiples and is spread to others who now have been infected by a changed straightened bug that is able to combat more and more of the efforts of the makers of anti biotic.
this has brought us to the brink of failure of antibiotics as a whole and that would mean the death rate from bacterial illness would be as high as it was prior to there discovery.
a person should take antibiotics exactly they way they were told to and finish the taking all the pills unless the doctor has seen them and told them to stop that one drug.

Is it okay to take an alternative remedy as well as a gp prescribed one. My mate is going to start taking,?

garlic tablets with her bp medication to help lower her raised blood pressure the other medication isn't working and she keeps forgeting to take her diuretic tablet, she takes them when she hasn't got to go out or when she can be bothered in my opinion. She hasn't taken any advice from anyone, she just asked at the health food shop what she can buy to help lower bp.
Answer:
It sounds as if your friend won't listen to anything she doesn't want to hear, and just suits herself regarding medication. In other words, a fairly normal human being! And most people seem to have high b.p. too. High b.p. is a real mystery. Some say lots of salt raises it - others dispute that. Some say garlic lowers it - that's also disputed. I have a brother who nearly died from high b.p. and he habitually used lashings of salt on his food, but he pointed me to a web-site that argues against the salt theory! Hum. Now he's on medication. About the single biggest cause, in my opinion, is stress. People with a relaxed, laid-back attitude to life are far less prone to high b.p. Then again, I'm NOT in that category, yet I have very low b.p.! So your friend should just do what she thinks is best, and maybe you could pray for her G.P?
There are new studies out currently that now say garlic is not effective for blood pressure and heart disease.
Get a good internist to treat her BP and forget alternative(horseshit) medicine. Garlic may lower cholesterol some but no BP
While garlic is not an issue, it is always worth discussing (with a pharmacist or your GP) whether an alternative remedy is advisable in conjunction with a prescribed one. This is because of potential interactions, and some of these can be quite subtle (for instance, statins given for high cholesterol are not safe with grapefruit). In the case of garlic I know of no evidence for it lowering blood pressure, and the idea it lowers cholesterol has recently been pretty thoroughly disproved.

Is it okay to take a percocet and an Ibufropen 800 ml at the same time??

Answer:
Yes, it's fine. Percocet contains oxycodone and acetaminophen (Tylenol). It does not contain ibuprofen. For a better pain relief effect, try staggering them, i.e., Percocet, then three hours later ibuprofen, three hours later Percocet, etc. It's best to have something in your stomach for both drugs - to avoid nausea.
Yes, although there might be a consequence.
The up side is that ibuprofen has anti-inflammatory properties and would be a benefit to reduce swelling, which percocet (which has acetaminophen in it) does not.The down side would be stomach upset/nausea. Both medications are prone to a nausea side effect and in some people this might be pretty bad.
Yes, as a rule. Percocet contains acetominophen (the same thing as Tylenol); in general, it will not conflict with ibuprofen. If in doubt, contact your doctor.
Well I would not recommend nobody to take so many narcotics in one day cause Percocet is a strong pill and should be taken every 4-6 hours as needed for pain and Percocet should relieve your pain better then Ibuprofen. Consuming too many Ibuprofen can lead to headaches.

is it okay to put ham in it?

Is it okay to leave vitamins exposed to air on the counter for days before taking them? in particular vit B?

Or should I be leaving them in their containers before taking them? Thanks.
Answer:
You should leave them in their containers. If you will notice, most vitamin bottles are brown or opaque to keep them from being exposed to light. Your vitamins will lose their potency when left out on the counter.
CLARITY HAS THE RIGHT IDEA.

is it okay (safe) to take expired dayquil?

i have some dayquil and i was about to take it when i noticed it expired in 10/05. is it still okay though? what would happen if i were to use it? (i didn't though)
Answer:
I don't think it would hurt you. But the active ingredients will lose their potency, so I don't think it would help much either.Buy a new bottle.
use it , and you will make more dumb questions like this one
You really don't need that crap. It will hurt you with a good date on it, but later in life.
A year over the expiration is the limit on medications, it will not hurt you but it has lost potency. If you have nothing else use it.
do it
It's okay to use - trust me!
Doctors don't recommend taking any pharmacutical, prescription or over the counter that is expired. The consequences of taking the drug could be minimal, or worst case scenario, severe.

is it ok to take tylenol cold medicine if u seem better but want to make sure i hear tylenol can be dangerous?

i was coughing alot this morning and i have classes this week and want to get rid of it as fast as i can
Answer:
Tylenol (acetaminophen) is only dangerous in high doses.Unfortunately, Tylenol cold preps are not going to shorten the length of your cold. The only product currently marketed that has shown scientifically to shorten the length of a cold is Zinc gluconate nasal gel, marketed as Zicam. Only the nasal gel seems to work, not the lozenges or the spray.Be well.Rick the Pharmacist
Take half of what is required. Then you should be fine. If the cold does unfortunately come back, then just start taking normal dosage.
Once upon a time, Tylenol and acetaminophen were almost synonymous. That is no longer the case. Despite rabblerousing in the press and some slick practices in occasional medical "studies" acetaminophen is as safe a drug in normal doses as has ever been made. On the other hand, if you've bought one of those things with a list of ingredients as long as your arm, you're now faced with taking a bunch of not-too-safe drugs in combination when you really don't need them. In a better world, there would be no one-pill-for-every-symptom combination for this very reason. Next time, it'll be a wiser buy to get your ingredients one pill at a time, perhaps acetaminophen for aches and fever, pseudoephedrine if you must for nasal congestion, etc. Since the drugs only treat symptoms, and that not well, it makes no sense to take the drugs to shorten the course, which is quite impossible for any known drug to do.
as long as you used Tylenol for the reason it was intended and as directed and do not exceed the maximum dosage or use it for a duration longer then recommended the drug is fine.
acetaminophen poisoning happens when people take too much all at once. or take the drug longer then they should. this drug builds up in the liver and is fatal if not taken correctly
you seem like your taking it for the reason it was made and as directed . so long as you don't take more then it says to on the package and you i mean you don't take it for weeks on end after all of the cold is gone you will be fine.
people who take the drug in huge amounts are often getting that drug in combination with codeine. a pain killer which can be addictive. so they end up taking it for the wrong reason and far more then they ever should .
normal everyday guy like you who has a cold and not an addict will be hard put to mess up with Tylenol.

Is it ok to take Soma while on Zoloft?

I am currently in Venezuela and I am taking Zoloft for depression ( It sucks) I have a back injury and I was wondering if any of you guys and girls are nurses or doctors and I was wondering if its ok to take both at the same time. I have not been able to contact my doctor and the doctors here dont know what Soma is. Does anyone know? Please help. Thanks you guys!
Answer:
I'm not a doctor, but I would say definitely not. Both are extremely strong drugs and even if they don't interact with each other, the combination would wipe you out completely (you'd be like a limp noodle, unable to fully use your muscles and totally spaced out). I don't know if you've ever used Soma before, but I have and after taking it I couldn't get out of bed by myself, my legs wouldn't support me. Please don't take anyones advice on here, make sure you get ahold of your doctor before you do anything!
its ok it will just really really relax you
I took Soma, Viccodin and smoked a bunch of weed once. it wasnt good...... i would say probably not!
My understanding is that Zoloft is a long-term use anti-depressant. It's not a quick acting anti-anxiety calm you down type pill like Xanax but requires a build up effect and makes it so you "think differently" over a period of time with the use of the medication. It is an SSRI (tell your doctors that if they don't understand what Zoloft is they should know what an SSRI is) and works with your brain chemistry and works by replacing certain chemicals (like serotonin) in your brain. Soma on the other hand is a muscle relaxant. The generic name of soma is carisoprodol, it's possible the doctors there will know it by that name. It is odd the doctors there don't know what it is though because it is a medication that has been around for a very very long time. Soma works on the central nervous system (a simplified way of saying what it does is that rather than replacing neurotransmitters like zoloft does it inhibits certain functions in the nervous system that send messages to the brain that tell you to be in pain) and is for short term use. It's also very habit forming. Zoloft and Soma are totally different categories of drugs. Where some categories should not be mixed, I haven't heard of anything about muscle relaxants having adverse effects with Zoloft. On a personal note, I currently take Zoloft for anxiety, OCD, and a myriad of other things. I've also taken several drugs in the same category as Zoloft before coming to it as one that works. While taking these meds I've had doctors prescribe me Flexeril without batting an eye. I do a lot of backpacking and hiking and usually have muscle relaxants on hand because of it. I prefer Flexeril to Soma because though it makes me more sleepy, I can still function on it (I don't get all lupey or druggy) where I can't on Soma. Flexeril and Soma are in the same category of drugs, so you should be okay. Still though it is best to consult with a doctor before taking anything, you may have some other personal reason why that would not be good for you.

Is it OK to take multi-symptom cold medicine when all I have is one symptom?

Answer:
It's just silly to risk the adverse effects of multiple drugs in order to treat one symptom. Acetaminophen/paracetamol (its name depends on which side of the Atlantic you're on) along with salt-water gargles should be adequate treatment for a sore throat (though if you have strep throat it's a good idea to take antibiotics to prevent complications). Decongestants risk cardiovascular side-effects, cough suppressants hardly work and can cause upset stomach, and antihistamines do nothing useful but cause sedation and occasionally other central nervous system and other complications. The world would be a better place if the multi-symptom concoctions were to disappear from the shelves.
No. Why over-medicate?
you have more than one symptom ,trust me.
ask google medical
Gargle with hot salt water and a cap full of hydrogen peroxide. Throw the multi-symptom crap away, it only masks symptoms, doesn't cure them, thereby exacerbating the existing condition.

Is it ok to take all my meds at once with a glass of water?

I take so many meds..all doctor scripted..
Diovan and two other for blood pressure
plus Niancin,
also an anti depressant
sometime xanax and lunest for sleep
plus i take green tea, cal max, fish oil, and green tea dros in coffee n the a.m.is this overdoing it and I am wasting my $$$$
Answer:
it is ok to take all ur meds at once with a glass of water...infact it is much better...who can drink that lot of water?..so have them at once---there is no problem at all!..and u will NOT choke!take in sets of three pills at once--no problem...but donat take six or seven at once--that wud be foolish..
good luck n get well soon!edit: look, they are gonna mix when they reach ur tummy...so whats the prob in taking them all at once
no, u could choke!!!
Is this your medication or your lunch?
Mixing drugs is not a good idea. You could always ask your doctor. Also, do you think all those things (green tea, etc.) are necessary?
If you are not lying, diffinately you should consult your doctor.
I too take two different kind of BP pills and 2 different Antidepressants. Go by your written instructions. I was taking mine all at once and the two antidepressants at the same time were causing jumpy muscles. I take one at night and one in the day and it went away. You especially want to watch your BP pills, your BP could drop too quickly.
No
Mixing vitamin supplements by taking them all at once isn't a problem since there is no drug interaction. However taking prescription drugs at once might cause a undesired drug interaction you're better off taking them in succession over a short period of time. You must also consider some drugs are designed to be long lasting and are so called "time released drugs" in which case it would not matter when you take them. Check with your doctor to be safe.
Some medications may react chemically with each other, so check with your doctor. You shouldn't be taking 2 sleep meds: get a referral to a sleep clinic! If you add milk to green tea, you neutralise its good effects (sweeteners optional). Try seeing another doctor for a different opinion. Cut out salt and minimise salty foods (use Cenovis NO SALT) have more sweet %26 sours, curry and hot, spicy dishes, and your blood pressure should drop.
you have a big chance of chocking on all those. try taking it slow will ya. you have all the time in the world :D
GO to your pharmacist with a list of these meds and ask. Some meds should not be mixed with others.

Is it ok to take a xanax pill for sleep after you have been off of the med for several months?

Answer:
I do it occasionally but usually there are no significant side effects other than the first thing in the morning blahs. I find though that if I take them 2 or 3 nights in a row some of the side effects return. So once in a while for a night or two isn't going to have any adverse effects.Sweet Dreams!
yes sir
It certainly is ok to take the pill as long as none of your other medications have changed, and you are not drinking alcohol or taking any type of drugs. The only risk you take is building a dependency or a type of addiction to the medication. Sleep aids are extremely addictive, and if you are not careful, you just may have to take them for the rest of your life if you want to sleep.
Hope this helps!
i would say no, as you probably already know, they are addictive. if you are off of them and having trouble sleeping, try an over the counter sleeping pill instead. if that doesn't work, talk to your dr.
It depends on what you mean by ok. Xanax is very very addictive. It seems pretty good at first, but after a while is causes bad side effects and it's extremely difficult to stop. If you're off them and doing ok, taking even one can bring back the addiction. If you'd like to know more about it check out www.benzo.org.uk to see the latest research.

IS it ok to mix Prilosec and Fibercon?

If one Dr tells you to take Prilosec for reflux and another says take Fibercon for IBS, would they cancel each other out?
Answer:
No, they would not "cancel eachother out"; they are totally unrelated drugs with different intended effects.
The Prilosec will prevent stomach acid from going into your esophagus. Fibercon is just fiber, it will bulk up and soften your stools to keep your bowels moving regularly. This is actually a good thing because preventing constipation will prevent painful GI obstructions that can aggravate gastric reflux.
They're actually starting to say that anyone diagnosed with IBS, or anyone with symptoms of IBS should be checked for celiac disease. Here's a link to the information by the National Institutes of health about celiac. http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases...If that sounds like something that may be going on there are a couple of really good message boards that you can visit to find out more information. www.glutenfreeforum.com

Is it ok for one person to take trazodone and lexapro?

I have found on the net that some sites tell you there is an interaction with this two drugs?
Please help!
Answer:
Just as long as that person isn't me - then go for it.Ask your doctor.
First, call the doctor, to make sure. Mistakes are made. Every other time I go to the doctors and then the pharmacists, I get different instructions on the pill bottle.Since you're not sure, make sure that you call the doctor and tell them the instructions on the front of the bottle, as well as the pharmaceuticals and their dosage. If the instructions, drug, or dosage ever changes make sure you know WHY. And make sure you take them at the same time every day, or night, as directed. I'm assuming you have a 'day' dose as well as a 'night' dose, so make sure those are spread out evenly, and consistent. But above all, you are supposed to ALWAYS follow the instructions on the label EXACTLY.
"... from a purely pharmacological point of view combining a SSRI antidepressants (lexapro) with a serotonin antagonist (trazodone) will probably result in elevated blood levels of trazodone and its metabolite (mCPP) may increase and cause anxiety. "
Lexapro is a SSRI- selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor
Trazodone is a SRI- serotonin reuptake inhibitorThe SSRIs are the new generation of the classic anti-depressants. On some levels, the two drugs do some of the same thing, so taking them together could have double the therapeutic effect and double the side effects. You might want to check with your doctor and carefully monitor your reaction to observe any adverse effects. However, the major problem in mixing anti-depressants and what you might be thinking of is called serotonin syndrome, which is caused by mixing MAO-I and SRI/SSRI. Since you're not taking a MAO-I there should be no problem there.

Is it normal to have stress pains in the stomach?

Its the same feeling as stress pains, which i usually get in my chest and ribs, but this time its in my stomach, is that normal?
Answer:
Stress can definitely cause stomach pains.I was having pain in my stomach a few months back... I finally went to the doctor, and it DID turn out to be stress-related - it was my anxiety. After a short time on anxiety medication, I relaxed and my stomach was just fine. :)Good luck!
Sure...anxiety can be felt in the stomach
Yes Stress or tension is one of the cause of gastritis or gastric problem !!
Yes. Haven't you ever heard the expression "butterflies in the stomach", it is stress also. But stress can be good and bad for you if the pain is really bad ask a doctor.

Is it normal to be angry and upset about surgery?

I'll try to keep this as short as I can, but I have an upcoming surgery and I am angry and/or upset about many of the aspects about it. Some things in particular are:Feeling helpless right afterwardsBeing confined to bed for about 4 days after surgery (even if I feel great, I will not be allowed to get up)The other time in my life I had surgery I was given a severe sore throat from the breathing tube. This was the most painful thing in my life, and it hurt far worse than the actual surgery. It looks like I do not have a choice and I will have to get general anaesthesia and a breathing tue again. I would prefer a milder sedation or to be outright awake during surgery, but like I said, it looks like I don't have a choice. Most other people I've talked to do not like many aspects of surgery, but they focus on how it will improve their lives. I personally sweat the details. Is this common? I am often very angry, upset, or scared.
Answer:
It's not uncommon in the least. You're probably someone used to being in charge and hate having to give up control. This is normal. Just try to focus on the good aspects, and if that isn't enough then you should bring your concerns to the doctor and/or surgeon.
trust me it is not uncommon to have these feelings before having a surgery esp since you have had a bad experience with other surgeries. I am a nurse and i have seen this a number of times. I do wish you well and hope your surgery goes smoothly
it depends on who you are the human nerve system works a little differently for everyone but it should be normal if your emotions get out of control over it contact your regular doctor

Is it normal for women to have a late period?

from the 28-36 day range
Answer:
yes, its called pregnancy! im just kidding.it depends on the age range, it is not uncommon for younger girls to go longer without having a period.also, girls who are extremely athletic or work out excessively, tend to have more erratic periods due to the increased levels of androgen hormones (which are male hormones used to create and build muscle tissue)If you do not fit either of these scenarios, it is recommended you see a doctor, (or at least take a home pregnancy test)hope this helps.
yes, women all have different timelines for their cycles. some have early periods, some have late periods. 28-36 days is still considered normal as long as you have it regularly.
yes and why is a guy asking this question?
Oh yeah, especially if there stressed.
woow well umm if u have recently lost a lot of weight ur period probably stopped cuz u dont hve enough fat to hold a baby and to nurture it =]
It's fine anything under 40 days is fine as long as it's fairy regular, if it suddenly comes very late or very early that's reason for concern.
It depends on the woman if her period is like clock work and suddenly she is late...Since this question comes from a guy yes you should be worried.
stress usually delays a period, and so can oral pills.
stress may be in any form physical or mental.
there fore a strep infection may cause a delay, but usually it doesn't.a vasectomy is known to reform rarely so get yourself examined
yeah get examined
YES STRESS CAN CAUSE A PERIOD TO BE LATE AND ALSO THE FEAR OF BEING PREGANT CAN CAUSE A LATE PERIOD

is it necessary to take a "human anatomy and physiology" class in college before starting medical school?

i have taken basic biology, zoology, cell biology and genetics.
Answer:
This may come as a shock, but the medical school will teach you anatomy and physiology. You just need general %26 organic chemistry, basic biology, basic physics. Don't waste time learning material that will be repeated in medical school. Get a broad prepatory education.
Hi, its about that time for me to decide the same thing and I
recently researched this question.
It may not be completely necessary to take these
classes. However, I know for a fact that it would definetely
help in medical school, whatever field you'll be in.
Also, it sounds cool :)Vote for me!
depends on what school your going to, it depends on their crickulum (sorry I know I misspelled that word).
yes you must take human anatomy and physiology class before you go to med school because it can help you understand the causes and effects of the problems related to humans.I have taken this class and it was little challenging but i made it...also if you are familiar with latin this class would rock for you.its fun if you want to make it a fun class because after all it just comes down to all the bones, tissues, organs, and ligaments...and the function.we almost felt like we were some amazingly designed machine...hahah but ya seriously taking this class will help you alot to get through MCATs and med schoolllgood luck...
Yes.
ACTUALLYDevil's in the details. It need not be HUMAN anatomy and physiology. As long as you study mammalian anatomy/physiology, it's fine. A common name for a course that studies such is "Organismal Biology".I said orgaNISmal.I took that course (along with its lab, which you should also take!), and I got into a few medical schools....and I assume the ones I didn't get into, I didn't get into because of other reasons...
I guess so, since you're into medicine, and by right should be for Humans (you wanna be a Med student right?) thus it is a fair deal that you should learn about the human body before trying to learn about what goes wrong with it and treating it.Now, I'm not a uni student (im taking a diploma and education in singapore is rather different from the US) but I do think that it's required. I've also taken those modules (cept' for zoology) cos I'm in biotechnology, but I'm currently taking A%26P as well, despite the fact that I don't actually need it... but what the heck, Anatomy's really fun, you get to learn about everything in your body at the anatomical level (duh) which is simpler than the molecular and biochemical level. I'm thinking that it things should fall into place just nicely because you've taken cell biology and genetics; A%26P is the part and parcel of the whole human biology thing.:)
Is it useful? Yes.Is it necessary? No. You will take a class in it your first year or two.Is it required for admission? Not in most medical schools in the United States.I have advised university premeds in the US and a majority did not take a human anatomy and physiology course. While requirements vary by school, the usual minimum coursework requirements in the US are a year of basic biology, a year of inorganic chemistry, and a year of organic chemistry with lab.
It is in your best interest to take it in college. The college course will be much less demanding than the medical school course, and it will help you to know the basics. For example, in college you may need to know the names of all the bones. In medical school, you will need to know the name of every bump and ridge on every bone. It's a big help to already have the names of the bones down.Same goes with physiology. Medical school is MUCH more detailed, and goes a lot faster. Most of your medical school classmates will have had anatomy and physiology, so they will have less trouble with the class.I'd also recommend biochemistry for the same reason.

Is it necessary to stay on a restricted diet forever following an attack of colitis?

I was recently hospitalized due to my very first severe attack with colitis. I have always suffered along with this ailment throughout my childhood and now well into my 50's. However, it has always subsided with a common sense diet etc but no medication. This time around I could do nothing to stop the pain and even had intestinal bleeding. The doctor released me from the hospital with a very restricted diet. I am on 2 courses of antibiotics and pain killers. I have been home for 3 days and am just beginning to feel better. I have just started eating solids like baby food, jello, toast, cottage cheese etc. Can I ever try chocolate or any of the other foods I so love again? I will be going for a colonoscopy soon and have made an appointment with another doctor. My sons have Crohn's desease. This seems to run in our family. What else can I expect from this illness?
Answer:
No theories about the causes of ulcerative colitis have been proven. But researchers think the body鈥檚 immune system reacts to a virus or bacteria by causing ongoing inflammation in the intestinal wall. Although this is considered to be a problem with your immune system, some doctors think the immune system reaction may be a result, not the cause, of the disease. Ulcerative colitis is not caused by emotional distress or sensitivity to certain foods or food products, but these factors may trigger symptoms in some people.
I think the first thing to do is get your colonoscopy and get diagnosed...because that will have a major impact on the treatment and if you need to be on a special diet. Check out the Yahoo Group 'crohnscolitis', for all sorts of great information about those diseases. I have Crohn's disease, was just diagnosed in May, and am struggling with the same questions about my diet. Of course, I love chocolate too, and potatoes and popcorn are my favorites (but hurt me too much), but living life without an ostomy bag is more important than having the foods I love.
you did not mention the type of colitis you have. if you have crohns disease, the course of treatment is different from other types of coltis.as you improve your comdition of colitis, yor diet will be gradually adapted to what is comfortable for you. if you knowe something gives you pain then do not eat it. even if it is chocolate.
%26#92;
unless you are a masochist with a death wish. colitis is not something to take lightly. it can kill. treat your guts with respect and theyu will not hurt as much.

is it necessary to give IM premedication in all patients routinely in this modern era with newer drugs?

Answer:
Yes. Some meds cannot be given IV because of their nature. Sometimes you want a slower absorption which you would get with a IM injection. Big reason: Sometimes you have NO IV access. You gotta get a drug into a patient. There is no oral form of the item, you have no IV access, and subQ just isn't an option. That's what I see IM for most of the time. It may be that they can't gain access, it may be for a simple procedure needing one or two quick shots. Setting up IV access for everyone in an ER or sameday procedure isn't necessary. I just had an IM shot a few months ago. With proper technique, it really doesn't hurt that much. Of course, I can be a real butt so the nurse had lot's to work with.
Since you ask about premedication, I guess you're talking about medications given before a procedure. In emergency medicine, they're seldom used, so "necessary" isn't the case. "Useful" for pre-operative elective or scheduled procedures, though, is another matter. Oral drugs now take the place of some that were previously given IM, but people are normally kept NPO to limit the risk of aspiration, so they're out. The medications given IM today are the same medications given IM decades ago, and for the most part can be given IV, but they are in %26 out faster that way, and the IM choice remains the better.
no- in fact, very few premedications used today are given IM.the most commonly used premed today is midazolam, or versed. it's most commonly administered IV, but can also be given orally or intranasally. IM would also work, but there's no obvious advantage to it. the only situation where IM shots would still be used is in adults who are completely uncooperative, and unwilling to drink an oral premed (ie: mentally retarded, or psychiatric disorders). uncooperative kids aren't that big of a deal- you can just gas 'em with a mask and inhalational sevoflurane.

Is it morally acceptable to experiment on animals to develop products and medicines that benefit beings?

Answer:
I don't think so! I don't think any animal should have to suffer to better a human life. How do we justify killing something so something else can live?
let me ask you this.. lets assume that there are such things as aliens regardless of whether you believe it or not just for the sake of this question...do you think it would be morally acceptable for them to experiment on humans to develop products and medicines that benefit aliens? would you like being ubducted by an alien for them to try some kind of product on you to sede if it will kill you or what kind of damage it will cause? as you can probably guess my answer is NO I don't think it is morally acceptable for an animal to potentially suffer and die for our wellbeing..
NO NO NO! I find it just plain stupid that we expect an animal's physiology and anatomy to react the same way a human's would. Perfect example: I can't remember what the drug was called (started with a "T") but in the seventies, it was tested on pregnant mice (the drug was to alleviate morning sickness) and their babies came out fine. However, when humans took it, their babies were born with severe birth defects. In my opinion, those in prison for life or those on death row should have the option to be used as guinea pigs for such experiments in exchange for a lighter sentence or opportunity for parole.
It is not acceptable.
They can drop an anvil on a helmeted chimp's head or they can drop it on a child's. I'd vote for the chimp. It IS a long, suffering, terrible way to die, but the simple fact is: their deaths save human lives. That said, I think they should use death-row criminals for the same science.
If you're going to try something, then there has to be a first time. You can't start later, no matter how hard you try.
yea, why not? esp the rats. u would want a rat to invade ur house creating a mess
When animals are used in research, they are not tortured as many seem to think. There are rules and ethical issues that guide how research can be done, how one can use the animal, what is ok and what is not. These committees which are set up to keep research on animal in line is very strict.
People would have never know what inside of a human being was like if people didnt eventually agree that it is ok to dissect cadavers, it was illegal for a long time and it lead to people doing it the under handed way.
Yes, I dont like the idea of animals being used in reasearch. I feel bad that they are made to go through pain. But when I think that something learned through such a research process may one day saved one of my loved ones. I would rather think of that.

Is it moral to use electric shocks by the doctor to treat the patiant?

Answer:
Yes. There are two uses of electric shocks I can think of. Defibrillators are used to start the heart if it has stopped or if it is in fibrillation. You often see it being used in emergency wards on TV shows.
Electro convulsive therapy has been used for a very long time for some mental illnesses. The shocks are administered while the patient is under a general anaesthetic. Patients who receive ECT report that it makes them feel a lot better and the improvements are measurable.
to be honest I dont really know.
But I did take a phycology class, and little things like that can mess people up.Like there was a babby, and phycologists would strick a gong every time the baby came in contact with a bunny. They did it to see if the baby would freak out around bunnys for the rest of his life, but he ended up way more messed up then that.Doing things that hurt people or scare people isn't a good idea in my opinion.
What type of shocks are you talking about, and where are they applied? In Electroconvulsive Therapy, for example, an AC voltage of 70 - 150V 60Hz is applied across both sides of the head (bilateral) or one side of the head (unilateral) for a few seconds. It's used to try to alleviate treatment-resistant depression. The bilateral procedure is very controversial, but the unilateral one seems to give good and safe results. It's also legal. That doesn't make it moral, of course. Here's a complete rundown on it, with pro and con resources.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/electroconv...Big Al Mintaka

Is it me or possibly the Meds?

Currently I am on 300 mg of effexor xr, I took it before but at I believe 150 mg gradually increasesd to 225mg with relatively no troubles except severe withdraw when I would forget for more than a day to take it, severe enough to find myself in the emergency room swearing whatever was wrong was going tot kill me. I went off for a period, but as my life went haywire with divorce, surviving a sexual assault at work, a major relocation with a career move that turned out not to be what was presented I was put back on it and at the current dose of 300mg. Basically it has made me a more tolerable person to others, but I have gained 80 pounds, fatigue, and have become unable to work any longer do to the severe muscle pain and fatigue. I've lost all labido as well. I also have very severe effects if I miss even a dose now, headaches, severe nausia, dizziness, brain shivers, extreme weakness. Does anyone else out there relate? Is it me or the medicine? Are there better alternatives to try?
Answer:
There is a book http://www.breggin.com that is called "It's not your fault, your drug may be to blame." by a Psychiatrist. On the web site provided, you will learn:
Psychiatric Drug Facts
What your doctor may not know about:
How psychiatric drugs really work
Adverse drug effects on the brain and mind
The role of the FDA
Drug company practices
Recent medical and legal developments
Electroshock and psychosurgery Last updated December 12, 2006 so it's very recent. Good luck.
u
It's the medicine.
If my Mom forgets a dose, she's miserable.
I couldn't suggest a better alternative but I would suggest talking to your doctor.
Good luck, sorry to hear of your misfortunes, though I am sure they have made you a stronger person.
Have your pharmacist look up the side effects for you.
I take Effexor and do not have these feelings .Feelings are very personal, and I feel for what your going though and you have been through alot...I think you should talk to someone on a 1 on 1 basis..I do not mean that as bad its just that sometimes we need to get these feelings off our chest and no pill will do that...Bless you and Good luck
effexor is horrible if you ask me. . I say the meds
Its amazing the effects that drugs have on the human body! I came off of that stuff when I got prego and had terrible withdrawls as well. go to WebMD.com and search for some stuff. I love that website. Also with your libido thing I go through that with my meds as well and they say that taking a course of Wellbutrin along with your SSRI can help. I am looking into getting myself on that as well. But for you it may be time to change your meds. I know changing sucks you have to have the withdrawls and then the new meds side affects but this isnt helping you. It is hurting you., Sure your mood is better but the other symptoms are going to bring you down in the long run so it is time to seek help from your doctor!
300mg is a very high dose. I'm on 225mg which is higher than anyone I know. I would imagine the higher your dose, the bigger the withdrawal symptoms if you miss. When I miss a day, I get brain zaps, very uncomfortable, and my only focus is getting the meds refilled asap! You seem to have way too many! Maybe some of your "side-effects" are symptoms of something other than depression. I would go to another doctor for an opinion. All anti-depressants have their side effects and they are all different. Maybe you need to try a different type of anti-depressant. Good Luck!
My ex-sister-in-law is going through the same symptoms on Effexor. She says she CANNOT get off of it! Anything is better than that! Try an herbal alternative if you can?!

is it legal to give a 5 chapter micro-biology test,?

and if so are they designed to make me into a history major?
Answer:
Of course 'it's legal'. Get off the Internet and start STUDYING!
Yes it's legal. It's called a final!
As a Biology major in college, I have determined that it is legal for this exam. It is unjust, but I have had professors that don't care about the students or their progress. All they are worried about is their money. There were 145 students that entered the program the same semester that I did and there are only 9 left. They are trying to weed out students that are not professional grade or strong willed enough to succeed in the medical fields. Study hard and don't give up!
Actually, it is quite sinful. Professors are devils in disguise. Only 5 chapters?? I once had a test with 11 chapters on it . . . in astronomy. Get used to it! This kind of prepares you for your comprehensive exams at the end that test you on four years of college!! YIKES@@@@@ Truck driving sounding pretty good by now, huh!?!
No state legislature or municiple authority decide how much leisure time you deserve while you are waiting for a diploma. You seem to think that a diploma is certificate that proves you hung out at the school for a while. An employer wants to see that you have demonstrated the ability to engage in and sustain hard work. Learning five chapters from a science textbook is a challenge. Can you do it? Can you sustain the effort? Would you include this exchange on Yahoo.com in your resume someday? If not, then use the experience to learn something about yourself. Successful people are people who knuckle down, postpone gratification and get it done even if it is quite unpleasent. Please note: It is not the microbiology that is unpleasent. It is missing the leisure time that you resent.

Is it legal to buy chlorophorm and if so where?

Answer:
Medical supply but not all of them carry it you must search for Chloroform to find it...
It must be because almost any lab using organic solvents would have it. However, like most halogenated hydrocarbons it is actually dangerous to handle. Also it is spelled with an "f" not a "ph" that should make it easier to look up for more detail.

IS IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SNEEZE WITH YOUR EYES OPEN? why? and what will happen?

Answer:
When you sneeze your eyelids shut by reflex. It would be nearly impossible to hold your eyelids open while sneezing unless you used superglue or fish hooks. Even so, the muscles that control the movement of your eyes have them firmly anchored in the sockets. So yes, it is unlikely you will be able to keep your eyes shut on account of the reflex, and no they won't pop out.
No, I have done it. oops let me put my eye back in
yes it is possible, that's an urban legend
your eyeballs will fall out thats what I heard anyways and I've tried doing it and I can't keep my eyes open. hahahaha
Whenever you sneeze, your eyes automatically shut. If you tried to hold them open, they would still probably succeed in shutting, unless you managed to hold them open really well. If you sneeze with your eyes open, your eyes will pop out of your skull. It'll be a painful experience, so please don't try it.
wow
never though of that
maybe your eyes will remain wide open from now on
Put your nose to some Black Pepper and try it, then tell us what happened.
no
Well no its not impossible, you can always hold them open!
hahaha NOTHING HAPPENS
mmmmmmmmmmmm. everything's possible so yes.. just.. sneeze with your eys open!! actually this is a good question, i dont even know the answer.. i should try the next time i sneeze.
Defense mechanism against blowing your eyeballs out like yo-yos.
you could but you have Strong i think well exactly its hard
yes; your eyes will just water, get itchy maybe, and become red...kind of unpleasant. Your body naturally reacts the the harshness of a sneeze with the blinking of an eye..just like how if someone claps their hands right in front of your eye you blink. It's the suddenness of it.
i really dont know the answer to your question, but i would like to share with you now that you mention sneezing that a guy i went to school with named Daniel once mentioned that if you sneeze, cough, yawn, and fart at the same time you die at the spot.
yes it is impossible to sneeze with your eyes open. and if you do... well idont want to know cause it will probably be really bad.
You can but your eyes are supposed to pop out, i heard that your eyes shut to keep the eyeballs inside of the sockets, and then there is the story the devil is trying to steal your soul that is why you cover your mouth
How about you try it and let everyone else know how it went
No. It is impossible to sneeze with your eyes open because the involuntary impulses that are made when you are about to sneeze prevents you from opening your eyes. Urban legends say that if you do sneeze with your eyes open, your eyeballs will fall out...
I dunno, but did you know when you do your heart stops for like a second or something?
noo just another myth..
You probably do not want to try. Your DNA sequence has this defense mechanism for a reason. You sneeze when you have something unwelcome in your esophagus, maybe mucus. If you sneeze upwind and you keep your eyes open, then all that stuff will blow back to yoru eyes. I'm completely serious.

Is it illegal for a pharmacy to stock "placebo" pills?

This is a debate currently going on in another board, and it centers mainly on whether or not a pharmacy is allowed to have "fake XX" to give to people who try to steal or forcefully take these pills from the pharmacies. Also, if someone could point me to where I could find this information for myself, I would appreciate it.
Answer:
its not illegal to stock them.it is illegal to sell them as real pills.
If people want to steal medication then I applaud the fact that the pharmacy will give you sugar pills instead. People who break the law only have themselves to blame. However if you want to find placebos actually for sale just look for any "medication" labelled homeopathic.
No, it isn't illegal. It would only be unlawful if they were selling placebo's in place of legitimate pills. It makes allot of sense for them to have these on hand to give them out in place of the legal narcotics that some would steel or rob for.
Placebos are used only in clinical trials, under controlled conditions and therefore are not available to the general public. While it might not be illegal for pharmacies to stock them, why should they do so when they can't legally sell them?
Some doctors will prescribe placebos for patients that really have nothing wrong with them but insist on some sort of pill to cure them. I wouldn't be surprised they are in the pharmacy.
NO I have prescribed them on occasion.

Is it illegal for a doctor to prescribe medicene to himself?

I'm sure this crossed into the unethical territory as well, but are there any laws stating this to be a crime?
Answer:
Self medicating is unethical, treating family is frowned upon, but both can be done legally in certain conditions. Careful record keeping is the key to answering charges in this type of case. If one is in a remote setting, and has no access to other medical professionals, then it is reasonable to treat self/ family. Long distance sailors with prescribed medications taken aboard for future problems (prescribed by another practitioner) can then be 'prescribed' by the medical person (or anybody for that matter!) in the event of subsequent problems: Infections, severe pain, injury, rash etc. etc.
Don't you watch House? Just kidding. Yes, it is illegal to self prescribe medications. Someone else must do it.
Yes
As far as I know it is, especailly DEA resticted medications like Percodan. Most Doctors, however, get freebees from drug companies and don't have to write a script.
It is illegal to prescribe for themselves but they can write for family members. Such as antibiotics for their children, etc.
No
