Is it true or a myth?

that food grade "poppy seeds" can cause a false positive for an illegal drug in a standard drug test?
Answer:
Yes, you can test positive for opiods after poppy seeds. I work in research and we used to work with cocane addicts. They were tested for drugs when they came in to do research. One day the researchers decided to test the poppy seed ingestion on themselves, and they tested positive after eating poppy seed muffins.
It's true...Mythbusters tested it on their show and proved that it does happen.
That's true...avoid them if you know you will be tested.
Yes.this is true. Do you ever watch Mythbusters TV show? On that show they tested this myth and proved it to be valid. I was pretty amazed, I didn't really think it worked, and you didn't have to eat a whole bunch to do it either!
Poppy seeds can definitely cause a false positive on a drug screen. It has to be poppy seeds from opium poppy plants. Both opiate and non-opiate poppy seeds are sold and used in cooking, but non-opiate seeds are more common. They get into your system quickly and stay for a couple of days.
It's false. Mythbusters ate a whole cup of poppy seeds and it turned out NEGATIVE. So it's harmless to eat a poppy seed muffin. Maybe a long time ago it happened, but today they raised the limit on the margin for error to reduce false positives.
Yes, they are called interferring substances.
Yes it can , it's has thesame chemicals as opium (drug the smoked in korea during the war- also in perks) , so it will test posotive and also police dogs can smell poppy seeds as if it were opium..
there have been cases where poppy seed kolaches (we laughed at how specific they got) did cause false positives in drug tests for morphine/heroin. although if/when they reflex to tlc it should come out normal.
