is melatonin an over the counter medication or a prescription drug?

Or can you name an alternative medication to take to help fall asleep. NOT Valagen
Answer:
over the counter and cheap. just don't expect too much. it helps a little. i use it because i have always had insomia problems and any little nonaddictive thing helps. some things like nytol will damage your heart. melatonin is harmless as far as i know. but that reminds me i aint the sharpest pencil in the box. lol
Try Sheepacountin鈩?
Over the counter and it really works!
I thought it was something you could get at a health store. i take sublingual melatonin and it helped my insomnia. Just be careful to never take it unless you will be in bed for the next few hours as sunlight can cause damage to your eyes from it.
You should not put any substance in your mouth to help you sleep. Not because of morality but because it is bad for your body's normal system. Maybe you should rethink your lifestyle choices. I did. Less work, more relaxation, and I sleep like a baby!
It is definitely over the counter, it is don-dependent (so you can't get addicted to it and it won't hurt you if you stop taking it) and it doesn't technically help you sleep... it helps you relax. Melatonin is a substance your brain makes that relaxes your muscles and your mind. Sometimes your brain doesn't make enough and you can't sleep, and so to remedy this you can take Melatonin. It also works great for jet-lag. Once your body and mind are relaxed, you'll sleep like a baby... I wouldn't recommend taking anything else.
This is over the counter. Helps to regulate sleep cycles. I believe it is a natural herb.
You can find it at Walgreens, Walmart, etc.
