Is Male Birth Control Pills Out Yet?

I have heard alot about them, but are they really out yet.
Answer:
Here is one undergoing clinical trials. It is taken a few hours before sexual activity when necessary rather than daily regardless of sexual activity.
Not yet wait for about 2 years.
no
i wish theyd come out. id love to see my boyfreind gain 20 pounds :-D
well i bet they'd be deemed only 40% effective, since i bet only 40% of the guys out there would be dedicated enough to take the pill every single day (especially if they're not married and irresponsible)
This is a follow up to Carl.
Yes, clinical trials are going on.
I did a search on Medline (medical literature) and came across a few articles..
--A May 2006 review article [Hormonal approaches to male contraception: approaching reality. ] concludes that temporarily stoppingsperm development through taking hormones (as in a pill) is the most likely form of male birth control in the future...early phases of clinical trials in these areas point to high efficacy and few side effects (I think the clinical trial described by Carl is one of these clinical trials)--Another May 2006 article [New approaches for male fertility control: HE6 as an example of a putative target.] describes a non hormonal approach which targets specific proteins which have specific roles in male fertility...however no drug as yet has been formulated based on this approach. And now...a digression.back in the early 80's I was a lowly lab technician in a pharmacological research lab [focus on membrane properties of mitochondria] at our local medical
college...one of the post docs was extremely interested in a male birth control pill...and I seem to recall him talking about some
plant product from India [I could be wa..a..y off].Anyways, out of curiousity, I did a search on the Internet...
and now he's VP of Strategic Development at a company in Baltimore called ReProtect http://www.reprotect.com/contact.shtml,... whichh develops products to protect reproductive health...nothing about male birth control pills, tho'.but who knows?
There should be no news stories on this. Maybe there will be in a couple years, maybe not. Premature news stories like those that hit the web a few days ago are all too common. It's very normal for drugs to look like the best thing since sliced bread in the early stages, only to find that they're not so great with further experience. Think Vioxx. I wouldn't hold my breath on this one.
And a major part of the debacles that came from Phen/fen, Vioxx, and others is laypeople pressuring their doctors for the latest. Once there was an old doctor's saying, "Be not the first by whom the new is tried, nor the last by whom the old is cast aside." There's a lot of wisdom in that.
