is getting off of benzo's truly worse than getting off of heroine?

on not?i am 63 and have been taking 1/2 of .5 mg. at night for sleep for four years..i have been told radically different things about this clonazepamdarnhelp please
Answer:
It doesn't have to be. Go to the sites cited by the poster above and follow that advice. You can greatly decrease the effects of withdrawal if you take it slow. DO NOT go cold turkey off a benzo. If you go slowly enough over a long enough period of time, you may not have any withdrawal symptoms at all. Clonazepam (Klonopin) is believed to be one of the easier benzos to get off of. At least you've not been taking Ativan or Xanax - those are apparently harder to get off of. I believe that the typical procedure is to gradually switch over to Valium, and then taper off of that very gradually. This might be even better for you as Valium tends to make people sleepier than Klonopin, and it seems that you've been taking the benzo for sleep.Don't sweat it. It can be utterly horrid if you do it the wrong way. But if you follow the advice in the Ashton manual, which the above poster provided a link to, you should be fine.
Ask your doctor.
All of the answers you need can be found here:http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual/index.htm...After reading this information, there is a fine group here at Yahoo:http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ben...They can answer any questions you might have. Or you can e-mail me at andrea.force@sbcglobal.net.
