Is it illegal for a doctor to prescribe medicene to himself?

I'm sure this crossed into the unethical territory as well, but are there any laws stating this to be a crime?
Answer:
Self medicating is unethical, treating family is frowned upon, but both can be done legally in certain conditions. Careful record keeping is the key to answering charges in this type of case. If one is in a remote setting, and has no access to other medical professionals, then it is reasonable to treat self/ family. Long distance sailors with prescribed medications taken aboard for future problems (prescribed by another practitioner) can then be 'prescribed' by the medical person (or anybody for that matter!) in the event of subsequent problems: Infections, severe pain, injury, rash etc. etc.
Don't you watch House? Just kidding. Yes, it is illegal to self prescribe medications. Someone else must do it.
Yes
As far as I know it is, especailly DEA resticted medications like Percodan. Most Doctors, however, get freebees from drug companies and don't have to write a script.
It is illegal to prescribe for themselves but they can write for family members. Such as antibiotics for their children, etc.
No
