Is E.R. very differnt from reality?

How does first aid work in US?
Answer:
ER the show is nothing like reality. It would be great to have the answers so distinct and obvious, but answers do not come so easily. The show makes it seem like you can get everything done so quickly. You often hear the doctor on the show ask for a chem 20, CBC, and other blood tests as well as a head CT. These processes take a long time. Once the blood is drawn, they are sent to the lab. Even though the ER has a higher priority than most other specimens, it usually takes about thirty to fourty-five minutes to get results from the blood tests. To get a CT, you have to wait until the radiology department is open to do the test. This can often take up to two hours. Another thing ER's have to look for is if women are pregnant. You don't want to send a pregnant patient to a procedure like a CT that might hurt the baby or mother. For this you have to wait for blood tests or urine tests to check to see if the patient is pregnant and then after you get the results, you have to wait for Radiology if you even get to have the CT. Also the waiting rooms are packed and take a long time to be seen. Some times can take up to six or seven hours before being seen. It isn't like ER where you see patients walk in and be like I have such and such a problem and they go right back to a bed. Also you don't normally have that many traumas in an ER and it is a lot more hecktick in a real ER than the smooth paced show. The ER has 24 hours to admit you to the hospital, so once you are in the ER, you may have a long wait to see what is going to happen. So the key thing about the ER in the U.S. is don't go to the ER unless you really have an emergency. That is why there are afterhour clinics and doctors offices. Also you don't usually have surgeons comming in and out of ER rooms. They stay in surgical area and the patient is usually rushed to them if a surgery problem happens to come forward.
you mean the show ER? uh... no its nothing close to a real emergency room that i've ever been to.
its not that low key and smooth!!
ER isn't the same thing as first aid and real life ER stuff is nothing like the television series.
All of my trips to the ER have been really different from what's depicted on the television program. I have wondered if there is an ER somewhere in the country run anything like that.
If you mean the tv show then, No, not even close to how hospitals are run in the US.
